Introduction
About the course: 

To gain the Diploma learners need to show they've achieved a particular set of skills and knowledge. The qualification contains a mix of knowledge and performance units.

Knowledge only units will be assessed by GOLA assessment. Performance only units will be assessed by work-based evidence only and design based assignment. Combination units will be assessed by GOLA assessment and in-centre practical work.

Who is the course suitable for?: 

This is one day a week course open to all sexes ages 18 plus who have completed the City & Guilds Level 2 Tech Cert & NVQ as detailed above.

Entry Requirements: 

City & Guilds Level 2 NVQ 6129 Technical Certificate in Basic Plumbing Studies and 6089 NVQ in Mechanical Engineering Services - Plumbing (Domestic).

GCSE Maths Grade C plus three further GCSE’s Grades A-C including English or Key Skills Level 2 in Communications and Application of Number. You must be actively working within the plumbing and heating industry.

Modules
Core Modules: 

You complete 7 core units: Maintain the safe working environment when undertaking plumbing work activities Maintain effective plumbing working relationships Contribute to the improvement of plumbing business products and services Plan complex domestic plumbing work activities Install complex domestic plumbing systems and components Commission and decommission complex domestic plumbing systems Service and maintain complex domestic plumbing systems and components. You then complete 4 specialist units that focus on gas heating installation.

Assessment methods: 

Group, Peer and Tutor assessed during theory and practical based sessions. Formal Summative assessments at key stages throughout the year.

What support will be provided?: 

Learners will be taught in a classroom and workshop environment along with on the job training and assessed via theoretical, practical and work-based assessments. Independent Hours of Study Outside Lessons: This varies but on average every apprentice will have to undertake the same amount of hours outside the formal environment as within the structured teaching and learning format. e.g. 7 hours in college = 7 hours independent learning Our Teaching and Learning Strategy is at the core of our approach to our students and their learning. You will have an Individual Learning Plan (ILP) where you will be set agreed daily and weekly targets. Your tutors will make it clear to you what your focus for each individual day should be and will work with you until you achieve your daily targets.

Your targets and your achievement will be monitored on a daily and weekly basis to ensure that your learning is successful and so that you are clear as to how well you are progressing You will need to monitor your own progress too. We want you to become self-critical and to think about how you can improve.

We will expect you to work hard and productively and to be in college for as long as it is necessary for you to meet your targets and succeed in your learning. The pace at which you work is monitored but you will be expected to meet your daily target before you finish for the day.
