With 150,000 global visitors including some of the world's most highly respected skills experts, Harlow College demonstrated to the UK, and, the rest of the world that Harlow excels in skills training.

The WorldSkills London 2011 Competition took place over four days, from 5-8 October. It is one of the biggest events ever to be held at ExCeL London Colleges and training providers helped to inspire young people to think about their future jobs and careers and develop their skills.

John Hayes, Minister of State for Further Education, Skills and Lifelong Learning, explains: "As host nation, we have a once in a generation opportunity to demonstrate how practical skills shape the lives of individuals and national life.

By demonstrating skills from hairdressing to aircraft engineering, we can show the rest of the world how crucial skills are for fuelling growth and driving prosperity."

Harlow College Principal, Colin Hindmarch sees this as a chance for young people from Harlow to have a place in history: "The last time a WorldSkills competition was held in the UK was over two decades ago - this really is a once in a generation opportunity for our students to witness such a prestigious national and international event. To be part of an event which recognises skills at the very highest level is truly aspirational and I have every faith that our students will rise to the occasion and add to a truly spectacular show."

Solomon Wagner from Harlow, aged 20, a Level 2 Electrical Apprentice said, "We're really excited to have been chosen to 'man the stand' at WorldSkills London 2011. It's great to be part of something this big"
