Additional Learning Support

Harlow College is committed to provide high quality support to individuals with learning difficulties or disabilities or other additional needs (emotional, social, behavioural), in order to help them achieve their full potential.

Learning Support is provided by a team of specialist staff to help you with your studies.

Help with your studies

Additional support may be offered on a one-to-one basis or with a member of staff joining a class.

Support we may be able to offer in the classroom includes:

  • Help with reading, numeracy and writing
  • Support for dyslexic students
  • Arranging suitable learning materials
  • Providing specialised equipment
  • Arranging extra time or breaks during exams, and providing specially printed or enlarged papers, or a reader, writer or signer to help you.

If you are deaf or hearing impaired we may be able to arrange:

  • Qualified sign language communicators and note takers
  • A portable hearing loop in reception & lecture theatre
  • Transcriptions of videos, films and tapes
  • Time with a qualified Teacher of the Deaf

Equipment at the college includes:

  • Braille printer
  • Large screen computer monitor
  • Hand held magnifiers
  • JAWS - a screen reader system for blind learners
  • Zoom Text - software for enlarging text on screen
  • High visability and Kidglove keyboards
  • Tape recorders/Dictaphones
  • Personal laptops to loan to students
  • Colour Magnifier
  • Coloured overlays
