You will learn and apply the theoretical and practical knowledge required for working the Health and Care field. Many of our former students are now pursuing new careers and seeing changes in their lives they never thought possible.

Access to Higher Education Diploma – Life Science

The Life Science pathway will show you that biology is both exciting and very relevant to our daily lives. The programme begins by helping you to understand the basic concepts of biology. You will learn about health and disease through existing medical research and in Term 2 you will carry out your own investigation in the laboratory. Alongside this you will learn core skills in IT, presentation and communication. This programme is challenging but also fun and extremely interesting too!

Access to Higher Education Diploma – Medicine

Access to Medicine is an intensive science‐based one year full time course tailored to the requirements of a medical degree, designed to provide an alternative route for non-traditional students into medical training.

It is a course for mature students who, having achieved in other areas, now wish to retrain as doctors. These include:

  • those with experience in other health-related professions
  • those whose initial career choice has proved unsatisfying and who wish to change their field of employment to the health care sector
  • those who have previously studied in higher education, but whose studies did not constitute a suitable preparation for medical training

Access to Higher Education Diploma – Nursing and Midwifery

Get on the fast track to a professional career in Midwifery or Nursing. If you want to go to university but don't yet have the necessary qualifications this course is for you. For adults who want a career in Nursing and Midwifery.

Access to Higher Education Diploma – Psychology and Counselling

This pathway is for those who wish to study for a psychology and/or Counselling degree at university. The Psychology and Counselling Diploma programme is the most suitable route for you if you are looking to go on to study a degree in subjects such as: Psychology, Psychology with counselling, Counselling and Psychotherapy, Education with Psychology, Sociology, Criminology, Psychology with Professional Development or other similar subjects.

Computer Aided Design (AutoCAD 2016)

This 10 week course will provide learners with a working knowledge of AutoCAD 2016 to enable them to produce engineering drawings to industry standards. The course includes producing engineering drawings using the standard conventions of orthographic and isometric projection and will be able to access drawings to modify previously created drawings. By the end of the course learners will understand how to apply the basic procedures of starting up and closing down a CAD system and the storage, retrieval, modification and printing/plotting of drawings.

This course covers the WAN technologies and network services required by converged applications in a complex network. Pasta Making

Learn something new and develop your culinary skills at Harlow College with a fantastic One Day Pasta Making Workshop. You will be warmly welcomed and enjoy tea, coffee and homemade biscuits before your full-day workshop starts. Your teacher will introduce the menu to you and explain the techniques you will be using to create your pasta. Everything you will need will be laid out ready for you so you can get stuck in with this hands-on day in the kitchen. You will learn to make a variety of different pastas, including long, stuffed, coloured and shaped pastas, as well as sauces to complement them. Then comes the best bit – the tasting. You can enjoy tucking into your own freshly made pasta with a glass of wine and take away plenty more pasta to enjoy at home.

Scaling Networks

This course develops an understanding of the architecture, components and operations of routers and switches in large, complex networks. You will develop understanding and skills required to configure routers and switches for advanced functionality. Successful completion would enable you to configure and troubleshoot routers and switches and resolve common issues with OSPF, EIGRP, and STP in both IPv4 and IPv6 networks. You will also develop the knowledge and skills needed to implement a WLAN in a small-to-medium network. 

Site Carpentry Diploma (EWPA)

If you're are an experienced, time-served carpenter but have no confirming qualifications, this course is a quick route to NVQ level 2. It will also help you get the right CSCS card.

Supporting Teaching & Learning in Schools

This qualification will give you the knowledge and skills needed to work as qualified Teaching Assistant supporting children in primary, secondary or special schools. This qualification is ideal if you are interested in working as a teaching assistant or learning support assistant or are currently working in an unsupervised role that supports pupils' learning, including specialist roles. You will need to be working, volunteering or on practical placement as you will need to show competence in both knowledge and skills. We will help you find that placement.

Women's Hairdressing Level 2 Diploma

This course will give you the skills and knowledge you need to provide basic shampoo and condition, styling men's and women's hair, plaiting and twisting, the art of dressing hair, salon reception duties, hair make-up, manicure and pedicure treatments. You will gain an insight into working in the sector and knowledge of the health, safety and hygiene requirements. It will support progression onto a Level 2 course.
