Study for an HE qualification in our superb facilities

We offer Access to Higher Education, HNC/HND and Professional Development courses, taught in state-of-the-art specialist facilities on Harlow College campus. These include a brand new £11m Advanced Manufacturing & Engineering Centre, Category 2 Science laboratory, broadcast quality editing suites, a green screen TV studio and radio studio. There's also a 96-seat lecture theatre, video conferencing facilities and high-end IT suites. Our team of friendly, highly qualified and experienced staff are on hand to help at all times.

Drop by our Student Support office any time during the day. It’s even open during holidays, and it's packed with information in a wide range of formats that should answer all your queries. Our fully trained Guidance team is also here to help you. During peak times you might have to wait a short while to see them but if we're not busy, we'll see you right away.

Access to Higher Education Diploma – Business

This course will help you understand the business environment and the skills, knowledge and understanding needed for you to progress further in the business world. Whenever possible term dates are in line with those of the Essex schools. We understand that many of our students have family commitments.

Mature students are valued for their life experiences, and an increasing number are entering higher education each year. Many are now pursuing new careers and seeing changes in their lives that they never thought possible.

Access to Higher Education Diploma – Business – Flexible Learning

A new flexible approach to learning. Start in the New Year and you could be starting university the following year! Blended learning suits your lifestyle – it's a mixture of attending College (monthly Saturdays and evenings, for individual support), online learning via our Virtual Learning Environment, support via email and telephone, plus one-to-one tutorials.

This course is for those who do not have the relevant experience or qualifications to progress to university. It will equip you with the skills and knowledge you need to succeed in a career in Health and Social Care. You will learn and apply the theoretical and practical knowledge required for working the Health and Care field. Many of our former students are now pursuing new careers and seeing changes in their lives they never thought possible.

Access to Higher Education Diploma – Life Science

The Life Science pathway will show you that biology is both exciting and very relevant to our daily lives. The programme begins by helping you to understand the basic concepts of biology. You will learn about health and disease through existing medical research and in Term 2 you will carry out your own investigation in the laboratory. Alongside this you will learn core skills in IT, presentation and communication. This programme is challenging but also fun and extremely interesting too!

Access to Higher Education Diploma – Medicine (Subject to Validation)

Our Access to Higher Education in Medicine is designed for adults who, for one reason or another, have not had the opportunity to study towards a degree or diploma, or have achieved in other areas and now wish to retrain to become a doctor.

Access to Higher Education Diploma – Nursing and Midwifery

Get on the fast track to a professional career in Midwifery or Nursing. If you want to go to university but don't yet have the necessary qualifications this course is for you. For adults who want a career in Nursing and Midwifery.

Access to Higher Education Diploma – Social Science

This course will focus on sociology, which is the study of human behaviour. You will begin to ask questions such as: 'Why are human beings different from each other?' You will explore the answers by studying topics such as, Changing Family Patterns, Crime and Deviance, The Sociology of the Media and Social Policy.

Business Management HNC/D

This Business course provides a stimulating and challenging programme of study that will be both engaging and memorable for students, along with essential subject knowledge that students need to progress successfully into the world of work or a related degree.

NOTE: A minimum number of 12 enrolments are required for this course to run.

Creative Media Production (Computer Game Design) HNC/D

The BTEC Level 4 Higher National Certificate/Diploma is aimed at people who work or who wish to work in the Games/Animation industry. The course focuses upon the creative art elements considered fundamental to successful performance in a vocational games industry context, and for employment in the exciting world of games art animation and visual effects.

NOTE: A minimum number of 12 enrolments are required for this course to run.

Early Years HNC/D

This course provides extensive knowledge of professional development, the Early Years curriculum along with communication, values & leadership for advanced Early Years Practitioners. You will gain an understanding of the stages and sequences of brain development, physical development and social skills. Most significantly, you will gain professional status enabling you to work with children or progress to university to complete an Early Years Degree, Teaching Degree or a Degree in Childhood studies.

Early Years Professional Practice BA (Hons) (Top-up)

Our exciting new Honours degree has been specially designed to meet the demands of employers in the Early Years sector, as well as the current criteria for Early Years Professional Status (EYPS), and Common Core of Knowledge and Skills for Early Years Workforce, as issued by the Children's Workforce Development Council (CWDC) - the sector's PSRB. This course gives you the unique opportunity to study early childhood as an academic subject and also develop your professional portfolio by engaging with Early Years practice. Students who have successfully completed a Foundation Degree in Early Years (or an equivalent qualification) complete Year 3 of the BA (Honours) course.

Engineering HNC/D

This course provides an extensive knowledge and skills in engineering with specialist units available in Advanced Manufacturing and Automated Systems. You will be studying in the new (£11m) state-of-the-art Harlow Advanced Manufacturing Centre (HAMEC) equipped with over £2m worth of industry standard machinery and equipment. There is a huge demand for qualified engineers locally, nationally and internationally. We work closely with industry to ensure our courses meet the requirements of employers.

Journalism NCTJ – News, Magazine and Broadcast (1 year)

Journalism NCTJ – News, Magazine and Broadcast (1 year)

This one-year course, regarded by many editors as the gold standard in training, helps to open doors into the industry. The course is intensive and the pressure to meet deadlines is real. You need to be committed but there will be plenty of fun on the way. You will meet lots of like-minded people who could be good contacts in thefuture. The course comprises: news reporting, public affairs, and press law with options to study TV and radio broadcasting, including TV news, radio news and broadcast regulations. It is examination and portfolio based to help prepare you for the pressures of a newsroom, where you will be asked to draw on knowledge of press law and public affairs and be able to produce concise and accurate stories to meet deadlines.

Leadership and Management

Harlow College is offering Institute of Leadership and Management qualifications and personalised training, designed to meet the individual needs of organisations and aspiring professionals.

Leaders, managers and supervisors can choose from a range of programmes at Level 3, 4 and 5.

Performing Arts HNC/D

This course has been created to focus on strengthening learners' existing abilities along with building up skills in the disciplines of Acting, Singing, Dance, Devising/Choreography as well as developing academic skills and knowledge in an autonomous way.

It is aimed at dedicated learners who wish to continue developing their skills and attributes to move into a range of areas in the artistic industry. Audition skills are enhanced enabling a more prepared application for the next-steps within their studies.

NOTE: A minimum number of enrolments are required for this course to run.

Sport HNC/D

Passionate about a career in sport? This full-time qualification will equip you with the knowledge and skills you need for a successful career in the sport industry as a Practitioner, Manager or Coach. The curriculum will develop your knowledge and understanding, opening up a broad choice of career options.

Year 1 of this two year course is studied at Level 4 (HNC). Year 2 is at Level 5 (HND).
