About the course

Business Services are at the heart of all operations at the airport and understanding the basics of business in today’s world of work is an essential foundation for your future career. This qualification will help you to gain an understanding of key business processes and provide you with the skills and knowledge in both business and marketing communications. You will also gain an appreciation of digital marketing and develop skills required to use business software and to effectively communicate with colleagues and customers.

Entry requirements

5 GCSEs at grades 4-9 (previously A-C). Interview and reference.

How much does it cost?

Free to those aged 16-18. If you are aged 19+ you can apply for an Advanced Learner Loan.

There is a range of financial support that you may be entitled to, including: Learner Support funds, grants and bursaries and employer support.

Additional course costs of approx. £100 a year will apply. This will cover the cost of educational visits, textbooks, guest speakers etc.

All enrolled students at Stansted Airport College will be eligible to lease an apple device to enable them to learn where and when they want. All students will are expected to have use of an IPad for their learning, in the majority of cases through a lease-to-buy scheme.

Why study?

This qualification is the first stepping stone towards a number of exciting and sustainable careers within the Business or Marketing industry. Career opportunities within this sector include, marketing consultant, conference co-ordinator, fundraiser, and business development executive. Further study and experience can lead you to becoming a business development manager, marketing manager, VIP passenger services supervisor, public relations officer, client relationship manager, an area sales manager and more.

We currently work closely with a number of companies to ensure learners are developing the skills they require to successfully progress into work with a reputable business. Watch out for guest speakers, behind the scenes tours, work experience and apprenticeship opportunities with top companies such as Amalga, Manchester Airport Group, Swissport and many more.

 

Where will this course take me?

Those who achieve this qualification will have a range of options. You could progress into work within the industry as an assistant or practitioner with PR, Marketing or advertising companies. You could even be working for a large commercial business. Learners could also access a higher apprenticeship or progress to University to study HNC’s/HND’s or degree programmes.

Core modules

The course consists of 8 Mandatory units, these include:

  • Competitive Business Environment
  • Marketing principles
  • Customer Communications
  • Digital Essentials
  • Responsible Business Practices
  • Marketing Research

This qualification can also be combined with a Level 3 Certificate in Applied Business which covers topics such as Business dynamics, managing and leading people and financial planning and analysis.

Engagement with Employers is a mandatory element of this qualification. A minimum of 30 hours of work experience is required as part of this programme

 

How will I be assessed?

Assessment methods include a combination of external and internal examinations and written assignments. Exams take place in January and June each year.

The units are graded pass/merit/distinction.
