12-18 Months – 1 day a week at College, 4 Days a week in the workplace

Overview

Hospitality managers work across a huge variety of organisations including bars, restaurants, cafés, conference centres, banqueting venues, hotels and contract caterers. These managers generally specialise in a particular area, however their core knowledge, skills and behaviours are aligned. Common to all managers in this role is their passion for exceeding customers’ expectations. Hospitality managers have a high level of responsibility and are accountable for fulfilling the business vision and objectives which requires excellent business, people and customer relation skills. Individuals in this role are highly motivated team leaders that combine a talent for management and specific industry skills and thrive on the customer facing nature of the role.

Am I ready to start?

Ideally you will have a minimum of 4 GCSEs at grades 4-9 (previously A*-C).

You should have had supervisory responsibility in order to start on this apprenticeship.

What does the course involve?

All Hospitality Managers will be required to demonstrate knowledge, skills and behaviours across 4 key areas. These include:

  • Business
  • People
  • Customers
  • Leadership

Apprentices will select one of 8 Specialist functions relevant to their role, these include:

  • Food and Beverage Manager
  • Housekeeping Manager
  • Front Office Manager
  • Revenue Manager
  • Conference and Events Manager
  • Hospitality Outlet Manager
  • Kitchen manager (Head Chef)
  • Multi-functional Manager

The End Point Assessment will test the entire Standard, and will comprise of: Knowledge test, 360 degree feedback, business project and a professional discussion.

This qualification is graded Pass/ Distinction/Fail

How and when will I study?

Apprenticeship Standards are assessed through independent end point assessors. Your role as an apprentice may vary depending on your employer. Learners that have not yet achieved a minimum of grade 4 or C in GCSE English or Maths will be required to complete a Level 2 functional skill qualification prior to taking the end point assessment.

Down to business, what can I do and what can I earn?

On completion, you could progress into a Hospitality Management position. There may also be opportunities to progress to higher level management positions such as an area or national manager.

Stansted Airport and its business partners offer many exciting career opportunities and this qualification will enable you to secure a management role within the hospitality sector. You could be working within a multinational hotel, a VIP lounge at the airport or even a highly reputable restaurant or food outlet.

We currently work closely with a number of highly reputable companies to ensure learners are developing the skills they require to have a successful career. These include Novotel, Hilton, Caviar House, Radisson and more.

  • Typically 20% study element (at Harlow College or Stansted Airport College).
