How does an Apprenticeship Work?

Harlow College is conveniently based in the Centre of Harlow.

Your Learning and Development Apprentice will benefit from:

  • The highest quality of teaching by a qualified, experienced Assessor
  • Modern well equipped classrooms
  • Classroom based study which further develops apprentice’s knowledge, skills and confidence
  • Maths, English and ICT teaching essential to underpin and support workplace knowledge
  • Learning at your premises by agreement
  • Use of the e-portfolio system Onefile

As part of our employer service you will benefit from:

  • A named advisor supporting you with information and guidance, advising you through the training process to successful completion
  • Progress reports
  • Regular, clear and concise communications
  • Our employer forum

What does the course involve?

The qualification will help the apprentice to develop knowledge and expertise as well as giving them an opportunity to apply these in a real work context. The apprenticeship focuses on areas such as understanding the principles and practices of learning and development, reflecting and improving on your own practice, identifying development needs and planning, preparing and facilitating learning and development.

Within the apprenticeship there is an option to complete a pathway which will allow learners to achieve their assessing qualification.

How and when will I study?

The apprenticeship is delivered through City and Guilds which is one of the UK’s leading providers of vocational qualifications.

Currently there are recruitment and retention issues in the UK in the learning and development sector. This apprenticeship is tailored to the needs of both the learner and employer to address key areas of development.

The learner will receive bespoke training and support which includes the use of our e-portfolio system Onefile.

Apprentices will gain a good foundation of learning which can allow them to progress further onto higher level qualifications and obtain membership to the CIPD.

Assessment will be completed using a variety of methods which include:

  • Observation of work practice
  • Oral or written questions
  • Professional discussions
  • Reflective accounts
  • Case studies
  • Witness testimony
  • Product evidence

In addition to this learners will need to complete exams if they are required to undertake their functional skills.

  1. Learning and Development Consultant

  3. Assessor
