Level 2 Award in Door Supervision (leading to SIA Security Licence)

Course duration: 6 days at various locations. Cost: £220

The Level 2 Award in Door Supervision is the nationally recognised Security Industry Authority (SIA) qualification. This course is a requirement for anyone wishing to work in the security industry. It will guide you through the theory and practical elements to enable you to pass your SIA exams, including Physical Intervention, allowing you to gain employment as a Door Supervisor and work within the Manned Guarding environment. All courses are delivered by tutors with Security Industry backgrounds and experience.

Getting Into Construction (previously CSCS)

Course duration: up to 10 days

On this course you will complete the Level 1 Award in Health & Safety in a Construction Environment and the CITB Operatives Health, Safety and Environment qualification, both required before you can apply for a CSCS card.
Knowledge is gained through hands-on activities relating to health and safety, teamwork, risk assessments and employability skills.

 

Functional Skills English

Functional Skills qualifications are designed to support you as you seek to improve your literacy skills and provide you with the fundamental knowledge required for everyday life. Achieving an English qualification will increaseyour confidenceand motivation and the skills gainedwill aid you in the workplace or any further learning.

 

Functional Skills Maths

Functional Skills qualifications are designedto support you as you seek to improve your numeracy skills and provide you with the fundamental knowledge required for everyday life. Achieving a maths qualification will increase your confidence and motivation and the skills gained will aid you in the workplace or any further learning.

Bright Futures Training Centre

Come and see us in the Bright Futures Training Centre in the heart of town. Working in this relaxed, supportive environment we will help provide you with the skills you need to find the job you want and give you the confidence to get back into the world of work.

At the Bright Futures Training Centre, we can help you to improve your English and Maths; brush up your IT skills and show you how to create the perfect CV. Alongside these essential skills you can take courses in Retail, Hospitality, Social Care, Security, Customer Service and Construction.

Talk to your JCP/Work Programme Work Coach (if you have one) or drop in to the Centre to discuss our courses. You can find us in East Walk, opposite the British Heart Foundation charity shop.

Harlow Construction Skills Centre 

Our brand new Construction Centre will deliver a range of training construction programmes to unemployed adults; people currently working in construction but requiring upskilling to progress their career and people who are looking to move into the construction industry from other sectors.

The Centre will offer:

  • On-site training, providing excellent opportunities with access to current construction vacancies.
  • Post-training 1-2-1 employment support and mentoring 
  • State-of-the-art interactive learning environment

Currently, the Centre runs courses in CSCS, COSHH, Emergency First Aid at Work and Mental Wellbeing, with many more construction-related course to be added.

 

The following courses may be free if you are seeking employment:

IT (Level 1 and Entry Level 3)

Course duration: up to 12 days

The City & Guilds ITQ is suitable for anyone who uses IT, whether at home or work. The flexible structure and assessment methods of the ITQ mean that it can be adapted for a variety of job roles. We have two programmes to meet the demand for employer IT needs. At the end of the course, successful learners will achieve a City and Guilds Certificate in either Level 1 ITQ or Entry 3 Start IT, dependant on skill level.

Working in the Hospitality Industry

Course duration: up to 15 days

You will gain a Level 2 Certificate in Food Safety and a Level 1 Award in Responsible Alcohol Retailing. This course is designed to enable progression into the hospitality industry, the qualification includes understanding of licensing laws, trading standards, food hygiene and health and safety. These skills are an essential requirement when working in this industry and you will also gain valuable employability skills and customer service knowledge. 

Whilst on this course you will also gain a Level 2 Certificate in Food Safety.

 

Preparing to Work in Adult Social Care

Course duration: up to 15 days

This introduction to the Adult Social Care sector will develop your understanding of working in this industry. You will gather valuable knowledge which is required by employers. You will cover a range of units specific to Adult Social Care and employability.

 

Business Administration

Course duration: up to 18 days

Within this course you will study a range of units specific to the business administration and customer service industries, complimented by employability and social media networking skills.

 

Working in the Retail Industry

Course duration: up to 12 days

This course is aimed at those wishing to work in the retail industry. You will study units covering the major aspects of Retail, including customer service, the retail selling process and customer service alongside learning valuable employability skills.

 

Fresh Start

Course duration: 10 days

This course is designed for long-term unemployed people, raising motivational and social skills to help them back to work. The course includes units such as, working in a team, using numeracy in the workplace, producing a CV, managing your time, setting & meeting targets at work, effective communication in the workplace, conduct at work, following instructions, making choices, health & safety at work.

 

Moving On

Course duration: up to 15 days

This course has been design by Harlow College to focus on individuals moving from PIP to ESA. The course includes units such as, working in a team, producing a CV, prepare for interview, personal presentation at work, healthy eating, effective communication in the workplace, managing money, exercise as part of a healthy lifestyle, Recognising own achievements and setting targets.  

 

Brighter Futures

Course duration: 10 days, 1 day a week

This course has been design by Harlow College together with the JCP specifically for lone parents. Within the course you will study units on Employment around Childcare Needs, Making Contingency Plans, Childcare Options, Child Development & Psychology, Managing on a Budget and Identifying Flexibility. Your Tutor will help develop your confidence, self-esteem and motivation.
