Journalism and Media are among the fastest growing industries in the world. In TV, film, radio and print there are endless opportunities for career progression. Our Journalism Centre has produced successful journalists for 50 years, including household names like Piers Morgan and Richard Madeley. The courses use industry-standard equipment and we'll challenge your creativity with projects and realistic workplace scenarios. Creative Enterprise (Media, Graphics/Illustration, Fashion Promotion & Photography) – Professional Diploma

The UAL Level 4 Professional Diploma in Creative Enterprise has been designed to provide students with the skills, knowledge and understanding necessary to develop their careers as creative professionals. This qualification will provide students with an opportunity to cultivate their employability by developing their creative enterprise skills, expanding their industry contact base while developing their start-up projects and professional practice.

The objectives of this qualification are to give students the opportunity to:

1. Develop and demonstrate enterprise and entrepreneurial skills necessary to the creative industries
2. Develop and define their artistic ambitions and creative ideas
3. Build up their professional practice and independently initiate their creative projects
4. Achieve a nationally recognised Level 4 qualification

Creative Media Production & Technology Level 2

The qualification has been designed for those who have an interest in media, often a specific discipline such as games design, who wish to explore and extend this interest via a full-time, immersive learning experience. Many students will have identified a specific career in the creative industries that they wish to progress to (eg games designer, app designer, broadcast technician, cameraman, director etc), using this qualification as a starting point.

Creative Media Production & Technology Level 3

The qualification has been designed for those who have an interest in media, often a specific discipline such as games design, who wish to explore and extend this interest via a full-time, immersive learning experience. Many students will have identified a specific career in the creative industries that they wish to progress to (e.g. games designer, app designer, broadcast technician, cameraman, director etc), using this qualification as a starting point.

This is a combined practical and theory based work-related course. You will learn by completing projects and assignments that are based on realistic workplace situations, activities and demands and you will develop the skills you need to start a career.

Creative Media Production and Technology (Social Media and Public Relations) Level 3

This course is designed to take advantage of the growing number of jobs in social media and PR. The course heavily relies on the use of smartphone and digital technology as students develop their communication skills to generate media campaigns, press kits, and YouTube and social media content. Students will leran a range of skills including how to rebrand products, writing press releases, shooting media campaign videos, and how to generate their own content for YouTube. Whether you want to become a press officer, PR executive, or a YouTuber this is the course for you!

Creative Media Production – Factual TV Production

This course has been designed for anyone who has a passion for TV. Written by an Emmy award-winning TV producer, whose credits include shows such as Big Brother, Don’t Tell the Bride, Dating in the Dark, and the Wright Stuff (to name but a few), the course includes all of the key skills that you will need to get into the industry. Whilst on the course you will learn presenting skills, how to pitch new programme ideas, programme development, camera and editing skills, studio work, and of course, shooting and directing your own chat shows, documentaries and reality TV shows.

Creative Media Production – Journalism

This is the first step in your career in one of the most exciting careers available. Led by a team of former journalists, this programme is designed to introduce learners to the fast-paced environment of print, broadcast and online journalism. You will learn how to improve your writing style, how to conduct interviews, what job roles are available, and how to improve your chances of getting your first foot in the door of this very competitive industry.

NCTJ Journalism Diploma – (1 year)

NCTJ Journalism Diploma – (1 year)

This one-year course, regarded by many editors as the gold standard in training, helps to open doors into the industry. The course is intensive and the pressure to meet deadlines is real. You need to be committed but there will be plenty of fun on the way. You will meet lots of like-minded people who could be good contacts in the future. The course offers pathways in news and magazine journalism and modules comprises: news reporting, public affairs, press law, shorthand, video journalism, online, and production. Final assessment is conducted via examination and portfolio to help prepare you for the pressures of a newsroom, where you will be asked to draw on knowledge of press law and public affairs and be able to produce concise and accurate stories to meet deadlines.

Photography Level 2 Diploma

A general introduction to photography covering both digital and traditional photography. There will also be opportunities to experiment with moving image and animation. You will undertake 'live briefs' set by outside organisations and enter competitions. You do not need to have studied photography before.

Photography Level 3 Extended Diploma

Develop a range of specialist and professional art, design and photography skills, with an emphasis on thinking creatively and working to briefs with deadlines. Suitable for anyone with a passion for photography, no previous photographic knowledge is necessary as skills are acquired from the start of the course.
