About the course

Stansted Airport flies to 190+ destinations and serves over £25million passengers per year and is expanding rapidly resulting in a demand for skilled cabin crew. This qualification will help you to gain an understanding of the role of cabin crew and provide you with the practical and technical skills to be able to progress into a career with a top airline. You will gain an appreciation of the terminology used within the industry as well as an understanding of the essential behaviours expected of future employees.

Entry requirements

GCSE grades minimum of 4 @ grades 3-9 (previously A-D). Interview and Reference.

How much does it cost?

Free to those aged 16-18. If you are aged 19+ you can apply for an Advanced Learner Loan.

There is a range of financial support that you may be entitled to, including: Learner Support funds, grants and bursaries and employer support.

Additional course costs of approx. £100 a year will apply. This will cover the cost of educational visits, textbooks, guest speakers etc.

This qualification is the first stepping stone towards a number of exciting and sustainable careers within the aviation industry and many other businesses.

Where will this course take me?

Example job roles include cabin crew, airport information assistant, airline customer service agent, flight operations, aircraft ramp handler, security officer, terminal operations agent.

Further study and experience can lead you to becoming a cabin crew co-ordinator or trainer among other supervisory or managerial roles.

Core modules

The course consists of 6 Mandatory Units:

  • Working as Cabin Crew
  • Airline health, safety and security
  • Aircraft emergency situations
  • Dealing with passengers on-board an aircraft
  • Cabin service – selling techniques
  • Making passenger announcements on-board aircraft

Students will also complete an Aviation Operations qualification which will provide learners with a broad understanding of the aviation industry. This will ensure on completion of the programme learners will be able to access a broad range of careers with the aviation environment and not only that of cabin crew.

Engagement with employers is a mandatory element of this qualification. A minimum of 30 hours of work experience is required as part of this programme.

How will I be assessed?

Assessment methods include a combination of examinations and written assignments and gathering of evidence via a portfolio.

Industry Standard Airline Cabin Crew requirements apply if the individual wishes to pursue a career in this field. E.g. Able to swim 25m unaided, age 18+ etc.
