About the course
This course is designed as a stepping stone into various vocational Level 1 courses within the College, such as Hair & Beauty, Carpentry, Mechanical Engineering, Performing Arts and Hospitality. Students have an opportunity to participate in Level 1 tasters to give them a chance to experience what is expected of them on a vocational course and prepare them with the skills required to study effectively. As part of the programme students will complete their course around the Preparing for Adulthood Pathways of Independent living, Community Inclusion, Health and Work experience, as well as Maths and English.
Completion of Towards Independence and Work
Our programmes run around a different projects, this will develop your skills working independently and working as part of a team.
Working on confidence and skills required for work.
Projects based within the local community to develop inter personal skills, confidence and face-to-face communication.
Sport & wellbeing
Students will partake in overall fitness and wellbeing each week.
English/Maths & ICT
Skills will be developed through projects and the opportunity to take qualifications will be available.
You will also learn the importance of healthy eating and how to develop cooking skills.
Additional opportunities include:
- Supported housing visits
- Confidence building and team building activities
- Tasters across the rest of the college in other departments
- Guest speakers from MIND and other supportive organisations within the SEN community
How will I be assessed?
RARPA Qualification (Recognising and Recording Progress and Achievement). This qualification is based on criteria linked to Preparing for Adulthood:
