    About the course

    This course will give you the potential opportunity to progress to the T level in Digital Infrastructure or other IT courses. You will be scheduled to attend college over 3 days a week and you will need to be organised and motivated to complete self-study. The course has been designed to include both practical and theoretical learning. You will have an opportunity to complete at least 25 hours of work experience. We have a dedicated support team to help you find work experience and get involved with skill development activities. This is an amazing opportunity to take up a bespoke course that allows you to progress onto the new industry recognised technical qualifications.

    Entry requirements

    • GCSE grades of 3 and 4 profile  
    • Students with SEND will be Entry Level 3 in Functional Skills

    How much does it cost?

    Free to those aged 16-18. If you are aged 19+ you can apply for an Advanced Learner Loan.

    There is a range of financial support that you may be entitled to, including: Learner Support funds, grants and bursaries and employer support.

    Why study?

    A SMOOTH TRANSITION

    We want to give as many young people as possible the chance to benefit from the T Levels, so we have also introduced dedicated pathways at Level 2 to ensure you can make a smooth transition to the new programmes at Level 3.

    This one-year transition programme will provide the ideal preparation for students who may not quite be ready to embark on a full L3 programme straight away. This involves learners achieving 2 qualifications in addition to English and maths.

    You will gain a BTEC Level 2 Award in ICT (120Hrs) which will  support you to develop the digital knowledge and skills needed for level 3 IT. 

    The objectives of all the qualifications that are included in the transition programme are designed to help learners to:  develop and enhance skills required for the working environment, develop learners’ confidence for employment and motivation, improve communication skills and personal effectiveness. 

    • The Online World – An introduction to the modern online world, developing a students knowledge of online services and the technology and software that supports them 
    • Spreadsheets - In this unit you will understand the many uses for spreadsheets and the tools and techniques that are available and become skilled at using them. You will be able to apply some of your findings to your own spreadsheet solutions.
    • Digital Portfolio - This unit is your chance to show off! A digital portfolio is an exciting onscreen way to showcase your achievements to potential employers or when applying for a course.
    • Website Development - For this unit, you will investigate the features and uses of websites by exploring what they are and how their integrated components and applications interact with each other.
    • Computer Networks – In this unit, you will come to understand the features and uses of computer networks by exploring what networks are, as well as the different types of network and how they affect user experience.

    How will I be assessed?

    The knowledge and understanding are assessed through 4 internally assessed units (coursework) and 2 external examinations (online test).  The main practical units are ‘Computer Networks’and ‘Computer Security in Practice’.
