You will take part in a range of studio based workshops to use and understand the basic principles and potential uses of a digital camera. You will also be introduced to basic imaging software and applications. You will be expected to carry out an independent shoot in your own time each week.

Core modules
A 10 week course where you will be introduced to how a digital camera works. You will also look at the work and techniques of other photographers. You will carry out shoots both in the photography studio, on the Harlow campus and independently at home or at a location of your choice. You will learn how to plan a shoot, including carrying out a risk assessment, and how to reflect on your work and make improvements. You will be given a basic introduction to Photoshop and learn how to manage digital imaging folders, make a digital contact sheet, digitally retouch a photograph and send an image to print.
How will I be assessed?
Practical workshops, including planning, reflection and risk assessments, and a final portfolio of images.
Will I have to provide anything?
Camera – There are no restrictions to camera type, however the ability to control shutter speeds, aperture and have a built in flash is advantageous. We can lend you a camera to use on site at Harlow College.
