1 year – 1 day a week at College and 4 Days a week in the workplace

Overview

A hospitality team member can work in a range of establishments, for example bars, restaurants, cafés, conference centres, banqueting venues, hotels or contract caterers. The role is very varied and although hospitality team members tend to specialise in an area, they have to be adaptable and ready to support team members across the business, for example during busy periods. The most important part of the role is developing hospitality skills and knowledge such as recognising customer needs, knowing how to match them to the products and services of the business and working as part of a team to ensure that every customer, whether they are eating in a restaurant, drinking cocktails in a bar, ordering room service in a hotel or attending a business conference feels welcomed and looked after.

Am I ready to start?

Ideally candidates will have a minimumof 4 GCSEs at grades 2-9 (previously A*-F).

Employers will set their own entry requirements in order to start on this apprenticeship.

What does the course involve?

All Hospitality Team Members will be required to demonstrate knowledge, skills and behaviours across 4 key areas. These include:

  • Business
  • People
  • Customers
  • First line supervision/Team leading

Apprentices will select one of 8 Specialist functions relevant to their role, these include:

  • Food and Beverage Service
  • Alcoholic Beverage Service
  • Barista
  • Food production
  • Concierge and Guest Services
  • House-keeping
  • Reception
  • Reservations
  • Conference and Events Operations

Apprenticeship Standards are assessed through independent end point assessors. Your role as an apprentice may vary depending on your employer. Learners that have not yet achieved a minimum of grade 3 or D in GCSE English or Maths will be required to complete a Level 1 functional skill qualification prior to taking the end point assessment.

The End Point Assessment will test the entire Standard, and will comprise of: Knowledge test, practical, business project and a professional discussion.

This qualification is graded Pass/ Distinction/Fail.

Down to business, what can I do and what can I earn?

On completion, individuals could progress into a Hospitality Supervisory or Team Leader position. You could also progress to the level 3 Hospitality Supervisor apprenticeship Standard.

Stansted Airport and its business partners offer many exciting career opportunities and this qualification will enable you to secure a role across a number of specialist areas within the hospitality sector. You could be working within a multinational hotel, a VIP lounge at the airport or even a highly reputable restaurant or food outlet.

We currently work closely with a number of highly reputable companies to ensure learners are developing the skills they require to have a successful career. These include Novotel, Hilton, Caviar House, Radisson and more.

An apprenticeship comprises two parts:

  • Typically 20% study element (at Harlow College or Stansted Airport College).
  • 80% work based element with an employer. It is your responsibility to find an employer.
