If you're aged 19 or over and you want to study A Levels, an Access to Higher Education Diploma, or a Level 3 to 6 Vocational Qualification, you could be eligible for an Advanced Learner Loan.

    About the course

    This is your pathway to a professional career in the booming construction industry. There's a national skills shortage in construction, so salaries are high and there are plenty of opportunities. The course is aimed at those who aspire to a well paid future in Civil Engineering, Site Management, Surveying or many other professional roles. You'll gain an insight into the construction industry, from the planning stage through to the design and building of housing, industrial and commercial buildings. We've made a huge investment in state-of-the-art technology, so you'll be working with cutting edge equipment. We also have great links with employers in the industry.

    Entry requirements

    Ideally, 5 GCSEs grade 4 - 9 including Maths and English or successful completion of a Level 2 trade qualification plus grade 4 - 8 in Maths and English.

    How much does it cost?

    Free to those aged 16-18. If you are aged 19+ you can apply for an Advanced Learner Loan.

    There is a range of financial support that you may be entitled to, including: Learner Support funds, grants and bursaries and employer support.

    Motivated, ambitious and hard-working young people looking to go to university and enter the construction industry.

    Why study?

    The Level 3 BTEC National in Construction and the Built Environment will give you the practical and theoretical knowledge, skills and understanding you need to prepare for a career in the construction industry. It provides you with an overview of many areas of construction and will help you to decide on a specialism for university.

    This course has the potential to lead to a range of careers in the construction industry including: Architect, Quantity Surveyor and Civil Engineer. The course is equivalent to three A Levels and can be used as a stepping stone to help you on your way to university. The construction industry makes up approximately 10% of the employment market which makes it one of the largest industries in the country. There is a shortage of skilled and qualified people in the construction industry.

    Where will this course take me?

    This BTEC Level 3 course is equivalent to 3 A Levels. It will prepare you for university, an apprenticeship or employment.

    Alternatively, you may wish to continue your studies at Harlow College on our new Level 4 HNC course.
