About the course

This course will give you the skills and knowledge you need to provide basic shampoo and condition, styling men's and women's hair, plaiting and twisting, the art of dressing hair and, salon reception duties. You will gain an insight into working in the sector and knowledge of the health, safety and hygiene requirements. It will support progression onto a Level 2 course.

Entry requirements

4 GCSEs at grade 3 or above, ideally one of which is English.

How much does it cost?

Full cost £1,287 (This course could be free if you are unemployed or earning less than £20,319  a year).

Textbook, USB memory stick, stationery, uniform, kit. Approx cost £150.

Why study?

Hairdressing is a dynamic industry with lots of different career opportunities to choose from. Successful people in the industry can take their pick from many top jobs from; preparing models, working on magazines and photo-shoots, in theatre and film, even tending to the rich and famous! The UK hairdressing industry is widely regarded as the best in the world so the opportunities are vast.

Where will this course take me?

Employment at junior stylist level (most salons would request a skills test as part of the interview process).

Funding Your Course

If you're aged 19 or over and you want to study A Levels, an Access to Higher Education Diploma, or a Level 3 to 6 Vocational Qualification, you could be eligible for an Advanced Learner Loan.
