    About the course

    This course is suitable for those who have no previous experience in health and social care but wish to pursue a career in this sector. The course is assignment based, with a minimum of 60 hours of work experience. Those who only need to do one GCSE resit will also do half a day a week volunteering, which will enhance their employability on completion of the programme.

    Entry requirements

    4 GCSEs at grades 2 - 3 including English and Maths.

    DBS (Disclosure and Barring Service) clearance.

    How much does it cost?

    Courses are free to 16-18 year olds. Reduced fees may be available for 19+ learners.

    Textbook approximately £25. DBS fee approximately £45. Compulsory trips approximately £35. Non-compulsory trips approximately £100.

    Why study?

    Health and social care is about supporting and caring for everyone, from grandparents to babies and everyone in between! It encompasses all parts of society across a range of health needs that include physical, mental, emotional and behavioural.

    A job in health and social care is demanding and challenging but extremely rewarding. This course offers a wide range of units that enable you to gain insights into the areas you would like to progress into. Placements offer practical experience, offering you the chance to gain key knowledge and confirm which areas of health and social care you are interested in.

    The Health and Care sector sector is growing fast, with a need for many more staff to care for those in our society who are unwell or vulnerable. There is also a need for highly trained personnel to care for our rapidly ageing population.

    This course offers you a first step into your chosen career. Students who achieve a minimum of a Merit at this level have the opportunity to progress onto Level 3.

    Where will this course take me?

    Those who achieve at least a Merit at Level 2 will have the opportunity to progress onto Level 3.

    You can also progress onto an Apprenticeship in Health & Social Care or employment.

    Applications for courses starting in September must be completed by Friday 30th June. Applications received after this date will go through our late interview and enrolment process. This may delay your course start date.

    Funding Your Course

    If you're aged 19 or over and you want to study A Levels, an Access to Higher Education Diploma, or a Level 3 to 6 Vocational Qualification, you could be eligible for an Advanced Learner Loan.
