    About the course

    This qualification will give you a good foundation of knowledge on the motor vehicle and its sub-systems. The practical assignments will allow you to practise and experience the maintenance activities associated with the service of light vehicles.

    Entry requirements

    4 GCSEs at grade 3 or above including Mathematics, Science and English Language; alternatively you will have successfully completed a Level 1 qualification in a related subject. You will be asked to attend an interview where your suitability, commitment and skills will be assessed. We will require a satisfactory reference from your last school or college tutor and you must have an attendance record above 85% (actual attendance).

    PPE – Including Overalls and steel toe cap boots; textbook, enrichment activity e.g. Motor Show, Skills shows etc. (approx. £100).

    Why study?

    You will complete a range of practical activities and job cards during your timetabled work ready day. Activities on this day have been designed in line with the needs of local and national employers with an aim of ensuring you have the skills to get into work and sustain employment once you have secured a job.

    You will also be trained to F-Gas certification level for the maintenance of automobile air conditioning systems.

    Core modules

    • Making Components using hand tools and fitting Techniques
    • Maintaining Mechanical Devices and Equipment
    • Carrying out Maintenance Activities on Motor Vehicle Electrical Equipment
    • Carrying out engineering activities efficiently and effectively
    • Using and communicating Technical Information

    If you have not achieved Grade C in Maths or English you will also be required to study Maths and English.
