About the course
Henry Ford said that "History is more or less bunk". The aim of this History course is to develop your analytical skills through the interpretation and evaluation of evidence, so that you can judge for yourself. You will be challenged to make judgements on controversial issues and you'll gain an understanding of significant political, social, economic and religious events. History at Harlow College has been designed to offer a balanced and wide range of units from different time periods and countries that meet the interests of our learners.
Entry requirements
A minimum score of 5 from 7 GCSEs to include English, Maths, and Science along with four other GCSE grades or equivalent.
English Language or Literature must be 5 or above

Free to those aged 16-18
There is a range of financial support that you may be entitled to, including: Learner Support funds, grants and bursaries and employer support.
You will be expected to pay for stationery and textbooks.

Why study?
The course covers a broad range of topics from a range of different countries and periods. In the AS year learners will study the early Stuarts and the origins of the English civil war 1603 and 1660. They will also study Russia from 1894 -1941, which will cover the Russian Revolution and the rise of Stalin. For A level, learners will be required to complete an individual essay on a topic of choice. Finally, learners will study Civil Rights in the USA 1865 – 1992. This unit will look at the development of Civil Rights in America for different groups of people such as African Americans, Native Americans and women.
Where will this course take me?
Progression into Higher Education to study subjects such as History, Philosophy, Politics, RE and a number of other humanities-based subjects. Employment in areas such as teaching, journalism, publishing, administration, social services and law.

Written examination at AS Level: 2 x 1 hour 30 minute
