You are eligible for free training if you meet the following criteria:

  • Aged 19+
  • Unemployed and in receipt of benefits
  • Employed and earning under £20,319.00 (individual, not household income)

If you do not meet the above eligibility you can still pay the full cost to study the course.

What do I do next?

  • Apply for one of our eligible training courses. There’s lots to choose from covering all different areas, from Accounting to Automotive, Electrical to Counselling.
  • The voucher will be directly applied to your chosen course by our Admissions Team, providing you meet the eligibility requirements and submit your evidence.
  • To ensure you qualify for free training, our Admissions team will need the following:

If you are unemployed and in receipt of benefits you will need to supply evidence of proof of benefits e.g. Universal credits, Job Seekers Allowance, Employment Support Allowance etc.

If you are employed and earning under £20,319.00 you will need to supply evidence of your three most recent wage slips.

Can I study more than one course?

Yes, but you will need to complete your first course before you can start your next eligible course.

If my course is only £200 can I use the remaining amount of the training voucher’s value on another course?

The voucher can only be used on one course, but you can finish the course and apply for another eligible course. Same eligibility applies.

Can I use this voucher to pay for textbooks and equipment?

No, this voucher doesn’t cover course equipment and materials, however you may be eligible for a Harlow College 19+ Bursary covering travel costs, childcare and course materials. Speak to our Admissions Team to find out more: 01289 868100

What If I’m not eligible but still want to study one of these courses?

If you do not meet the eligibility criteria you can still pay the full cost to study the course.

I haven’t been in a classroom for many years! What will it be like?

Don’t worry! The chances are, most people in your class will be in the same boat. You will be studying with like-minded people who may be looking for a change in career, to upskill, or to enhance their existing career.

AAT Level 1 Access Award in Bookkeeping (Online and On Campus)

This Level 1 qualification introduces the role of a bookkeeper and simple bookkeeping techniques. It covers the buying and selling process and the common documents used. The unit also includes recording transactions in the books of prime entry. On completion of this unit, students will be familiar with bookkeeping terminology and will have developed practical bookkeeping skills. Students will gain the confidence to contribute effectively in the workplace and to move on to further study in bookkeeping.

This Level 1 course is part-funded, so the cost for students is reduced. 

On successful completion of this course, you might be eligible for a fully funded Level 2 course. Please see information on progression.

Please note: classroom attendance is fortnightly, on every other Tuesday.

AAT Level 2 Certificate in Accounting (Online and On Campus)

This AAT (Association of Accounting Technicians) Foundation course is an entry-level accounting qualification, ideal for anyone who is seeking an introduction to basic accounting principles and skills.

This flexible course is delivered in partnership with Mindful Education, and combines online learning with face-to-face lessons in the classroom. 

This Level 2 course is part-funded, so the cost for students is reduced. 

On successful completion of this course, you might be eligible for a fully funded Level 3 course. Please see information on progression.

Please note: classroom attendance is fortnightly, on every other Wednesday.

AAT Level 2 Certificate in Bookkeeping (Online and On Campus)

This AAT (Association of Accounting Technicians) Foundation course is an entry-level bookkeeping qualification, ideal for anyone who is seeking an introduction to basic bookkeeping principles and skills.

This flexible course is delivered in partnership with Mindful Education and combines online learning with face-to-face lessons in the classroom.

On successful completion of this course, you might be eligible for a fully funded Level 3 course. Please see information on progression.

Basic Nail Treatments Level 1 Award

This course is designed to develop your practical skills in providing basic manicure and pedicure treatments whilst working towards a recognised qualification. 

It’s ideal for those with little or no experience and are looking take their first steps into the beauty industry. 

You will develop a sound knowledge of health and safety practices in a salon environment, along with client care and communication skills required for working within the beauty industry.

One unique advantage of this course is the opportunity to learn within Harlow College's two state-of-the-art hair and beauty salons. These salons are conveniently located on the Harlow College campus and in Harlow Town Centre, offering a real-world learning environment equipped with industry-standard equipment. This hands-on experience will not only enhance your practical skills but also expose you to the professional atmosphere of a salon, preparing you for a successful career in the hairdressing industry. 

Successful completion of this course will not only set a strong foundation for your Beauty career but also prepare you for progression onto a Level 2 course or our Level 2 LED Gel Polish course.

Beauty Therapy Level 2 Diploma – Part-time

Learn the basic skills and techniques of Beauty Therapy. You have the opportunity to try out your practical skills on your fellow students and the final assessment of these skills will be carried out by applying treatments to paying members of the public.

Carpentry & Joinery Diploma

This course is for anyone who is looking to work in the construction sector as a site carpenter.  The course will equip you with the basic skills needed to become a carpenter and will aid your progression at work or onto a higher level course.

Counselling – Level 2

Start date: Tuesday 16th April – This course is now full

Start date: Thursday 18th April – Spaces available

The learners will gain knowledge of applying counselling skills as a counsellor, mentor and care provider.  This will include role play, group discussions and 1:1 sessions during which they will apply and practice the skills taught.  Learners will research and learn about the different theories around counselling, such as Cognitive Behaviour Theory, Person Centred Theory and   Psychodynamic as well as reflecting on practice in counselling.

Early Years Practitioner Diploma – Adult Course Level 2

This course will provide you with a foundational knowledge of childcare in the classroom. Working alongside others from a variety of early year settings learning about the value of play, child development, partnership with parents and building relationships with children. Opportunities to network with others and share good practice of your workplace and take part in college activities developing skills in ICT, English & Maths.

Electrical Installations Level 2

This programme is a practical, work-related course. You will learn by completing projects and assignments that are based on realistic workplace situations. You will learn by completing a variety of practical and theory assessments that are based on realistic workplace situations. It covers the basic underpinning knowledge and technical practical skills needed to be an Electrician. The programme provides a good foundation for future careers opportunities or progression on to a more advanced work-related qualification.

Gym Instructing Certificate – Part-time

The qualification is based on the Chartered Institute for the Management of Sport and Physical Activity (CIMSPA) professional standards for instructing gym based exercise. Throughout this qualification, learners will develop their knowledge and understanding of relevant anatomy and physiology. They will also develop the knowledge, understanding and skills to prescreen clients and check their readiness to exercise, health and safety and induct individuals and small groups to gym equipment. They will also plan and instruct gym-based exercise programmes. In parallel, learners will develop their communication and customer service skills, their awareness of environmental sustainability and their commercial skills, all of which are valued highly by employers. Problem solving, team working skills and research skills will also be developed.

Hairdressing – Level 2 Women’s Hairdressing (Part-time)

This Level 2 Hairdressing course is the perfect starting point for aspiring hairdressers. It will provide you with the essential skills and knowledge required for basic shampooing and conditioning, styling men's and women's hair, braiding and twisting and fulfilling salon reception duties. Throughout the course, you will also gain insight into the workings of the industry and develop a solid understanding of health, safety and hygiene requirements.

Mental Health Awareness Level 1 Award

In this course the learner will understand what is meant by the term 'mental health' and consider the definition and causes of mental health difficulties. Learners will also explore common perceptions of mental health difficulties and how stereotyping can affect people's perceptions. They will develop their knowledge of the rights of those who experience mental health difficulties and learn where appropriate support can be sought. Learners will also develop their awareness of cultural diversity within mental health issues.

Plumbing Level 2 – Part-time

For candidates who want to work as plumbers in the building services engineering sector. This qualification does not make candidates fully qualified plumbers but enables them to gain the relevant hand skills and knowledge through studying Health and safety, Electrical principles, Scientific principles, Plumbing processes, Cold water systems, Hot water systems, Sanitation, Central heating systems and Drainage systems.

Social Media Marketing

This course  has something for everyone. Whether you are a novice or already have some experience working in social media marketing, this course will cover the basics and develop your confidence using and understanding how social media can be used in marketing products.

Supporting Teaching & Learning in Schools – Adult Course Level 2

This course offers learners first-hand experience of working in the education sector, whilst learning the knowledge and putting it into practice. Many students find part-time or full employment from the course whilst volunteering in the setting.
