Health Science Professions – Access to Higher Education Diploma

The Health Science pathway is a platform that leads allied health professions which include Paramedics, Physiotherapy, Radiography as well as Chiropractic to name a few.  Access to Health Science is designed for adults seeking a career path in a science related profession. The programme begins by helping you to understand the basic concepts of Biology and you will progress to learn about health and disease through existing medical research. In Term 2 you will carry out your own research project in the laboratory. Alongside this you will learn core study skills that will prepare you for University. The Access to Health Science Professions requires commitment and dedication and will provide a challenging yet fun learning environment towards your career goals. 

AAT Level 2 Foundation Certificate in Accounting

The Foundation Certificate in Accounting offers grounding in the core accounting knowledge and skills needed to progress in finance and accounting-related careers, or towards further study by offering development and formal recognition of skills.

Our blended learning approach enables students to benefit from both face-to-face teaching at Harlow College and online lessons available on demand. This approach offers a truly flexible study experience.

In addition to attending face-to-face classes fortnightly, students will be expected to undertake between 5 and 6 hours of additional study out of college.

AAT Level 3 Advanced Diploma in Accounting

The Advanced Diploma in Accounting will suit you if you have completed the Foundation Accounting qualification and would like to build your skills or you’re already working in finance and you’d like a more formal recognition of your skills. 

In addition to attending face-to-face classes fortnightly, students will be expected to undertake between 5 and 6 hours of additional study out of college.

Beauty Therapy Level 2

Learn the basic skills and techniques of Beauty Therapy. You have the opportunity to try out your practical skills on your fellow students and the final assessment of these skills will be carried out by applying treatments to paying members of the public.

Brickwork Diploma (EWPA)

If you're are an experienced, time-served bricklayer but have no confirming qualifications, this course is a quick route to NVQ level 2. It will also help you get the right CSCS card.

Business Management – Access to Higher Education Diploma

This course will help you understand the business environment and the skills, knowledge and understanding needed for you to progress further in the business world. Whenever possible term dates are in line with those of the Essex schools. We understand that many of our students have family commitments.

Mature students are valued for their life experiences, and an increasing number are entering higher education each year. Many are now pursuing new careers and seeing changes in their lives that they never thought possible.

Fashion Business & Retail Award – Part-time

This is an introduction to aspects of the fashion business and retail industry such as buying and selling, production, promotion and visual merchandising. IT Skills Entry Level 3

Law and Practice - Level 3 Certificate

This course offers unparalleled access to a flexible career as a lawyer. It provides a cost-effective way of obtaining law qualifications without having to complete a qualifying law degree (although graduates of law or non-law subjects can still choose to become a Chartered Legal Executive lawyer via this route).

If you don’t have a qualifying law degree you will need to take the Level 3 Diploma qualification, set and assessed at A level standard, and the Level 6 qualification, which is set and assessed at honours degree level.

The Level 3 Certificate in Law and Practice is the first step towards this and was developed to recognise the growing number of students who are either interested in a short but rounded introduction to Law and Practice and are aimed at those wishing to move towards a career as a solicitor.

Leadership and Management Level 5 Certificate

The Level 5 qualification in Leadership and Management, designed for middle managers, is designed to develop personal management capabilities and grow professional management skills including decision-making, managing team dynamics and delegation capability. Learners will complete a number of units and each unit will require a piece of work to be submitted and all deadlines will be provided during the induction.

In addition to monthly classes all learners will be expected to complete independent study outside of the classroom. This varies from week to week but could include set readings, research or gathering information from within the workplace.

Medicine – Access to Higher Education Diploma

Access to Medicine is an intensive science‐based one year full time course tailored to the requirements of a medical degree, designed to provide an alternative route for non-traditional students into medical training.

It is a course for mature students who, having achieved in other areas, now wish to retrain as doctors. These include:

  • those with experience in other health-related professions
  • those whose initial career choice has proved unsatisfying and who wish to change their field of employment to the health care sector
  • those who have previously studied in higher education, but whose studies did not constitute a suitable preparation for medical training

NCTJ Journalism – News & Magazine (1 year)

This one-year course, regarded by many editors as the gold standard in training, helps to open doors into the industry. The course is intensive and the pressure to meet deadlines is real. Psychology and Counselling – Access to Higher Education Diploma

This pathway is for those who wish to study for a psychology and/or Counselling degree at university. The Psychology and Counselling Diploma programme is the most suitable route for you if you are looking to go on to study a degree in subjects such as: Psychology, Psychology with counselling, Counselling and Psychotherapy, Education with Psychology, Sociology, Criminology, Psychology with Professional Development or other similar subjects.

Site Carpentry Diploma (EWPA)

Social Work and Health Care – Access to Higher Education Diploma

This course is for those who do not have the relevant experience or qualifications to progress to university. You will learn and apply the theoretical and practical knowledge required for working the Health and Care field. Many of our former students are now pursuing new careers and seeing changes in their lives they never thought possible.

Supporting Teaching & Learning in Schools

This qualification will give you the knowledge and skills needed to work as qualified Teaching Assistant supporting children in primary, secondary or special schools. This qualification is ideal if you are interested in working as a teaching assistant or learning support assistant or are currently working in an unsupervised role that supports pupils' learning, including specialist roles. You will need to be working, volunteering or on practical placement as you will need to show competence in both knowledge and skills. We will help you find that placement.

Teaching – Access to Higher Education Diploma

This Education, Teaching and Childhood Studies pathway provides a wide knowledge and understanding of the UK Education System. It will prepare you for study on any teaching/education related university course. The Access diploma will give you a solid grounding for when you commence your university degree, (BA, BSc), Foundation Degree or Higher National Diploma.

Women's Hairdressing Level 2 Diploma

This course will give you the skills and knowledge you need to provide basic shampoo and condition, styling men's and women's hair, plaiting and twisting, the art of dressing hair, salon reception duties. You will gain an insight into working in the sector and knowledge of the health, safety and hygiene requirements. It will support progression onto a Level 3 course.
