Quantity Surveying Foundation Degree (FdA)

About the course

Quantity surveyors play a vital role in deciding whether construction projects are financially viable. You’ll learn how to financially manage construction projects from initial concept, through to design, build and maintenance.

Entry requirements

UCAS Tariff points from a minimum of 2 A Levels (or equivalent).  2 GCSEs at grade C, or grade 4, or above in English and Maths.

If English is not your first language you will be expected to demonstrate a certificated level of proficiency of at least IELTS 6.0 (Academic level) or equivalent English Language qualification, as recognised by Anglia Ruskin University. 

Alternatives:

UCAS Tariff points acquired from BTEC Level 3 Diplomas are accepted.

Access to HE Diplomas at overall Pass grade are accepted.

Level 3 Engineering qualification.

UCAS Tariff points from the Irish Leaving Certificate are accepted.

UCAS Tariff points from Scottish Highers are accepted.

UCAS Tariff points from Scottish Advanced Highers are accepted.

How much does it cost?

University Centre Harlow currently charges an annual fee of £7750 for all of its degrees.

There are a number of scholarships and bursaries available.

If you are over 19 you may access a student loan for the fees and maintenance.

The Student Finance England website has full details and you can use their calculator to see what help you may be entitled to.

How will I be assessed?

Your first year will give you a solid grounding in the knowledge and skills you need to succeed as a quantity surveyor. You’ll learn simple site surveying, CAD drawing production and how to use BIM modules.

You'll learn methods of construction and requirements for the internal environment; design analysis; and techniques and materials based on performance and sustainability; and develop written and graphical communications skills.

You'll understand construction management principles and process, examine health and safety issues in construction, produce risk assessments and method statements and identify safe systems of work.

You'll learn basic economic principles and English legal processes that impact organisations and professionals in the Built Environment and develop research skills; preparing you to provide advice to clients.

We’ll assess you using a range of methods, including exams, assignments, presentations, practical work and group work.
