About the course
This is the first step towards some of the most exciting careers available. Led by a team of journalists, PR and marketing professionals, this programme is designed to introduce learners to the fast-paced environment of print, broadcast and online journalism, as well as the exciting world of PR and marking, where students will work with a real life client to produce a product. Some of the skills you will learn will include improving your writing style; how to conduct interviews; developing press releases, print and/or video content for advertising. We will also explore the various job roles that are available, and how to improve your chances of getting your foot in the door of this very competitive industry.
Entry requirements
Diploma – 4 GCSEs at grade 4 or above including grade 4 in English Language or Level 2 Diploma in Multimedia at a Merit or above.
Extended Diploma – successful completion of the Level 3 Diploma at a Merit or above.
How much does it cost?
Courses are free to 16-18 year olds. Reduced fees may be available for 19+ learners.

Why study?
This is a practical work-related course. You will learn by completing projects and assignments that are based on realistic workplace situations, activities, and demands. You will also undertake work experience and develop the skills you need to start your career. The course is made up of a selection of units ranging from interview techniques, writing copy, broadcasting skills, and page layout and design. Successful completion of this course will allow you to achieve a qualification equivalent to three A Levels.
Core modules
There are 13 units of study within the Extended and 8 units on the Diploma culminating in a final major project.
How will I be assessed?
All assessment is by coursework. There are no exams.
Where will this course take me?
Careers such as Journalism, publishing, film and TV production, marketing and public relations. higher education in subjects such as Media or Journalism.
Will I have to provide anything?
For journalism classes you will need a reporter’s notebook, memory stick for use on PCs and Macs.
