About the course
Links to the Community is an exciting course designed for learners with SEND who are preparing for their next steps after college. This final-year programme focuses on building independence skills, travel training, and practical English and maths for everyday life. Learners will have the chance to take part in volunteering opportunities, explore social activities within the community, and hear from inspiring guest speakers. The course also includes tasters with adult education providers, helping learners experience new pathways and plan for the future with confidence.
Entry requirements
Learners must have an EHCP and have completed at least one year in Supported Studies or at a similar provision elsewhere
Why study?
Learners will spend time out of the classroom practicing practical life skills to lead to independence in life, work and community. This will range from volunteering opportunities, developing travel skills, and how to live independently, for example cooking a healthy meal.
Visits to providers within the community that can support the young person as they leave college. For example- volunteer providers, adult services, social engagement opportunities.

To include but not limited to; PACT for Autism, Active Essex, ACL, Zinc Arts, Rainbow Services, Accuro
Past Statistics:
- 50% of our learners have a taster at ACL or similar provider for their next steps
- 100% have a volunteering or work experience opportunity
- 100% are invited to trips and visits to expand their knowledge and confidence in the community
