Gibberd Gallery Exhibition

Gibberd Gallery Exhibition

Talented students from Harlow College and University Centre Harlow have curated and designed work for a stunning new mixed media exhibition at Harlow's Gibberd Gallery.

The exhibition, Reflect 2015, ran from 7th – 11th July and showcased the creativity of media, photography and graphic design students, with a display of photographs, music videos, animation and specially designed children's books. These were the result of a successful collaboration between the college and pupils from The Downs Primary School, who created characters for the books. Also included in the exhibition were Stansted airport designs by the FdA Graphics students, one of which has been selected for use at the airport.

Joseph Campos, 19, a Level 3 media student and curator of the exhibition said of the event. "The main benefits of an exhibition like this are that it gives students an opportunity to showcase their work to the public, which they don't always get the chance to do. For myself, as a curator, it's given me an insight into the real world in terms of prepping and organising a big event."

Hannah Bennett, Principal Tutor in Media & Journalism, said: "The show aims to showcase some of the very best young creative media talent and to connect them with industry professionals through sponsorship and industry collaboration. The exhibition has provided our students with valuable professional production experience and offered them a platform to show their work to the general public and potential employers. The first Reflect 2015 has been a huge success and I look forward to Reflect 2016!"

Karen Spencer, Principal, said: "We want to thank the Gibberd Gallery for providing our students with the opportunity to showcase their creative work at Reflect 2015. As a College we really believe in giving students opportunities that stretch and challenge them - exhibiting in a professional gallery is a fantastic experience and I was blown away with the quality of their work."

The event was made possible with the help of Harlow Arts Trust and Gibberd Gallery director Corrina Dunlea, who said: "The team of students were particularly enthusiastic and I must say, very professional and willing to learn. One has even asked if he can come back and volunteer since he found the process from beginning to end quite fascinating and rewarding. The standard was really incredible and made a big impact with our visitors."
