Harlow College Students Display Tunnel Vision!

Two talented Harlow College students have had their work chosen to be displayed in the pedestrian tunnels at Stansted Airport, where it will be seen by over 20 million visitors a year.

Their stunning designs were chosen from a diverse range of entries as part of a live project brief set by Stansted Airport to Graphic Design students at the College back in June.

The winning designers are Angela Padilla, 27, who studied the Foundation Degree in Graphic Design at University Centre Harlow and Jade Shaw, 22, a student on the BTEC Graphic Design course at Harlow College.

Neil Banks, Head of Airport Customer Services at Stansted Airport, said of the winning designs: "They are two very different ideas. One is full of inspirational quotes with images of the countries we fly to and the other is made up of silhouettes of customers, which really relates to a vision of what the airport is like on a daily basis. Both of these designs really stood out for us as what the airport is all about.

"I had the pleasure of visiting Harlow College and seeing all the students work and the standard was fantastic."

Karen Smart, Customer Service and Security Director at Stansted Airport added: "It's fantastic that we're able to bring our local community into our airport. The project has gone amazingly well. I'd like to thank the two students who have totally exceeded expectations with the quality of their work."

Jade and Angela were both thrilled to have their work chosen for display, with Jade saying: "It's really exciting that my work is displayed at Stansted Airport – it's quite overwhelming that so many people will see it. I've never worked with a big company before so working with Stansted Airport was a really good experience for me."

Angela, who is now in her third year and currently studying at Cambridge, was equally enthusiastic about the project: "I'm really happy, especially as I've made my family proud of me. I put a lot of myself into this design."

Karen Spencer, Principal of Harlow College, is proud of the students' work. "Our Harlow College students' design work has made a great impact at the airport. The tunnel project was run as part of our Young Professional Scheme, in conjunction with Stansted Airport. It was a fantastic live brief giving students the opportunity to pitch their ideas to a panel of experts and see them turned into a reality at the Airport. What a great example for a portfolio being able to say that 20 million people a year will see your design!"

Young Professionals is a scheme at Harlow College that enables external clients to provide live project briefs that we then match to our students. Currently, this is mainly media-based, e.g. web design, video, photography and graphic design work.
