A member of staff at Harlow College has made the Times Educational Supplement’s (TES) Top 50 Social Media Users list.

Charlotte Creagh, Head of the Digital Innovations team, made the list which is comprised of college professionals, who are using social media to improve learning and teaching or to create positive change within their organisation.

TES said: “Charlotte engages learners and works with them on digital projects, and uses a range of social media tools to support learners who are working in partnership with other staff on digital projects at Harlow College. Through the use of Twitter and other tools Charlotte encourages their digital ambassadors to develop their own digital and employability skills.”

The final line-up was taken from nominations and chosen by a panel of social media experts, including former principal education adviser and chair of the government’s computing expert group, Bob Harrison; Stephen Exley, further education editor at TES, and James Clay and Sarah Knight from Jisc.

As Head of the new Digital Innovation team, Charlotte helps support staff and students in the use of digital resources for use in the classroom, as well as researching innovative ways to apply new technologies in education, including training and support videos and working with student digital leaders and ambassadors.

Charlotte said: “It’s great for the College to be recognised by TES for the work that we’re doing with digital technologies. Twitter has played a big part in our journey in learning and developing the digital team by connecting with industry professionals and the wider digital community to ensure we’re at the forefront of digital technology at the College.”

Adam, a current Level 3 IT student, is a digital ambassador and has been developing an app called ‘Live Learn’ which allows learners to remotely connect to their class from any location. He said: “Working with the Digital Innovation team has been an amazing experience. I’m really excited to have the opportunity of developing this learning tool for the classroom.”
