Apprenticeships

The Apprenticeship Levy

The way the government funds apprenticeships in England is changing

Some employers will be required to contribute to a new apprenticeship levy, and there will be changes to the funding for apprenticeship training for all employers.

The apprenticeship levy requires all employers operating in the UK, with a pay bill over £3 million each year, to make an investment in apprenticeships. You can benefit from this investment by training apprentices.

Traineeships

Try a Traineeship

BECOME ‘WORK READY’ WITH A TRAINEESHIP

A Traineeship is an education and training programme with work experience focused on giving you the skills and experience employers are looking for.

Traineeships help unlock your great potential and give you the work preparation training, maths and English and work experience needed to get an Apprenticeship or other job. The programme is designed so that you can move into employment as soon as a suitable vacancy becomes available.

How a Traineeship Works

EXPECTED DURATION
Between 8-10 weeks

WORK EXPERIENCE PLACEMENT
The main part of a traineeship is a high quality work experience placement that will give you the opportunity to learn new skills and improve your employment prospects.

WORK PREPARATION TRAINING
Get ready for work and learn essential employability skills on how to achieve and maintain employment.

MATHS & ENGLISH
Maths and English support is included for those that require it to help develop the literacy and numeracy skills needed to boost your chances of getting a job.

Can I Do One?

You could be suitable for a traineeship if you are:

  • currently not in a job or work less than 16 hours per week and have little work experience
  • aged 16-24 and qualified below Level 3 (A Level)

Will I be paid?

Employers are not required to pay you for taking part in a traineeship but may support you with expenses such as transport and meals. Depending on your individual circumstances you may be able to access financial support from the College bursary.
