About Finding an Employer

You MUST have an employer before you can start an apprenticeship. You can search for an apprenticeship job here.

If you don't yet have an employer you can still apply for an apprenticeship while you continue to look. We can offer you advice on how to successfully secure an apprenticeship with an employer.

Duration

15 months

Overview

This Apprenticeship delivers a solid foundation in finance administration and core accounting skills, including double-entry bookkeeping, basic costing and an understanding of purchase, sales and general ledgers.

Students will also learn about accountancy related business and personal skills and be introduced to the four key themes embedded in the qualification they will undertake alongside their Apprenticeship: ethics, technology, communications and sustainability.

On completion they can progress on to the Level 3 Assistant Accountant Apprenticeship Standard.

Am I ready to start?

Individual employers set the selection criteria, but this is likely to include 5 GCSEs, including Maths and English, although some employers will accept other relevant qualifications and experience, including a relevant Level 2 qualification. Apprentices without English or Maths at Level 2 must achieve this prior to taking the end point assessment.

What does the course involve?

This apprenticeship standard is at Level 2, which delivers a solid foundation in finance administration and core accounting skills. The structure allows students to achieve the AAT Level 2 Certificate in Accounting as their on programme learning.

To complete the Accounts or Finance assistant apprenticeship, apprentices will be expected to complete:

  1. Structured Interview (supported by a portfolio of evidence)
  2. In-tray test

Down to business, what can I do and what can I earn?

  • Purchase/sales ledger clerk
  • Accounts administrator
  • Accounts payable clerk
