About the course
This NVQ provides you with the competence, skills and knowledge to work effectively and efficiently with IT systems, communications and productivity tools and applications in a range of job roles and industry sectors.
You will need to undertake an IT skills scan and a basic skills assessment. You will also need to be in employment and be working in a range of industries where IT skills are required as part of the job role. You must be at least 16 years of age with no upper age limit.
How much does it cost?
Free to those aged 16-18. If you are aged 19+ you can apply for an Advanced Learner Loan.
There is a range of financial support that you may be entitled to, including: Learner Support funds, grants and bursaries and employer support.
Who is it suitable for?
This will prepare you for job roles that require in-depth knowledge and competence in the use of particular systems and software, as well as wide-ranging transferable skills and the ability to develop and test solutions to improve workplace productivity through the use of IT. This is suitable for those in job roles such as: Office Support, Personal Assistant, Accounts Assistant, Website Technician, Teaching Assistant, Sale and Marketing or Helpdesk Support in a wide range of industries.

Comprises 25 credits of which 5 credits must be from a mandatory unit:
- Improving Productivity Using IT
The remaining 20 credits will be selected from optional units, which are relevant to your job role.
How will I be assessed?
You will be set daily targets and assessed against them at the end of each day.
- Portfolio of evidence
- Multiple choice and written exams
- Practical assessments
The NVQ is assessed by a designated expert who will carry out task observations and visit you regularly at work. You will be required to produce an NVQ portfolio recording all tasks completed.
Will I have to provide anything?
You will need to provide stationary, folder, text book and a USB memory stick.
