Mechatronic Engineering Foundation Degree (FdA)
About the course
The course will enable you to learn how mechatronics systems work from design to build. You’ll hone your skills in systems design, development, and optimisation by working on a variety of projects.
You will learn to design and manufacture products efficiently. You’ll also acquire project management and commercial skills that will make you a well-rounded, engineer career-ready for the engineering industry and beyond.

Entry requirements
UCAS Tariff points from a minimum of 2 A Levels (or equivalent). 2 GCSEs at grade C, or grade 4, or above in English and Maths.
If English is not your first language you will be expected to demonstrate a certificated level of proficiency of at least IELTS 6.0 (Academic level) or equivalent English Language qualification, as recognised by Anglia Ruskin University.
Alternatives:
UCAS Tariff points acquired from BTEC Level 3 Diplomas are accepted.
Access to HE Diplomas at overall Pass grade are accepted.
Level 3 Engineering qualification.
UCAS Tariff points from the Irish Leaving Certificate are accepted.
UCAS Tariff points from Scottish Highers are accepted.
UCAS Tariff points from Scottish Advanced Highers are accepted.
How much does it cost?
University Centre Harlow currently charges an annual fee of £7750 for all of its degrees.
There are a number of scholarships and bursaries available.
If you are over 19 you may access a student loan for the fees and maintenance.

How will I be assessed?
The mechatronics engineering FDA includes hands-on activities and learning about fundamental engineering topics, as well as concepts of design and project management. You’ll focus on materials and composites, manufacturing, and understanding of mechanical engineering concepts, as well as introductory mechatronics and electronics.
You’ll undertake a design and manufacturing project that will teach you how to identify, analyse and assess engineering challenges, while developing the skills to critically appraise problems accurately and holistically from end to end. You’ll work with colleagues and build strong interpersonal, communication and project management skills.
This gives you the opportunity to begin to experience a real-world engineering environment from the start.
Assessment is conducted on an ongoing basis and includes a combination of coursework, presentations, reports and some exams or in-class tests. You will receive structured, insightful feedback throughout your degree course.
