About the course

If you’re ready to take the next step towards work, our Supported Internship programme could be the perfect opportunity for you. This one-year programme is designed to help you gain real workplace experience, build confidence, and develop the skills you need for future employment.Working closely with a number of employers, Harlow College offer a range of exciting placements based directly within the hospital or businesses within the area. Across the year, you’ll rotate through different roles, supported by specialist staff who are dedicated to helping you succeed.

The aim of Supported Internships is to support our young people with EHCPs to gain paid employment by:

  • Supporting them to develop the skills valued by employers.
  • Enabling them to demonstrate their values in the workplace.
  • Developing confidence in their own abilities to perform successfully in work.

Entry requirements

  • Travel training completed before placement
  • Photo ID and bank account for DBS application

Why study?

  • It is a 1 year programme
  • Age range from 18-24
  • Up to 2 job placements throughout the academic year
  • End outcome – to have the skills, knowledge and behaviours to move into paid employment in the future

A blended week of learning and hands-on experience, progressing up to 5 days a week

  • 1 day at college with your Lead Teacher (9.30am–3.30pm)

You will focus on:

  • Developing your English & Maths
  • Building employability skills
  • Working on your personal development goals
  • Up to 4 days on placement with your job coach

Here you will:

  • Gain skills through a real work placement
  • Receive tailored support and regular reviews
  • Experience job rotations (up to two each year)
