About the course
This course comprises six tailored units designed to address the specific needs and challenges of older individuals re-entering the workforce. Each unit focuses on building confidence, enhancing key skills and ensuring a smooth transition into employment.
Unit 1: Making Choices
Learners will explore strategies for making informed career decisions by evaluating their interests, strengths and aspirations. Activities will help identify career paths that align with their skills and preferences.
Unit 2: Living in the Community
This unit highlights the importance of effective communication and collaboration within a community. Learners will develop interpersonal skills essential for building strong workplace and community relationships.
Unit 3: Budgeting
Financial literacy is key to managing personal finances and making informed decisions. This unit covers practical budgeting techniques to support financial stability.
Unit 4: Aspects of Citizenship
Understanding rights, responsibilities and the broader societal context is essential for active citizenship. This unit explores how individuals can contribute positively to their communities.
Unit 5: Developing Skills for Gaining Employment
Focusing on core employability skills, this unit covers CV writing, interview techniques and effective communication strategies, tailored to the needs of older job seekers.
Unit 6: Career Planning
Learners will engage in career planning by setting long-term goals, identifying skill development opportunities and exploring pathways for career advancement and sustainable employment.
Additionally, the Mental Health Awareness Qualification provides essential insights into the impact of mental health in the workplace. It encourages open discussions about mental well-being and offers strategies for maintaining mental health in both professional and personal life.
By the end of this course, learners will have a well-rounded skill set, equipping them with the confidence and knowledge needed to secure meaningful employment and navigate today’s job market as older workers.
Entry requirements
Learners must be unemployed and in receipt of benefit or earning under £25,000 per annum
Must have a National Insurance number
Must have been a UK resident for the last 3 years or proof of right to education
How much does it cost?
Free if you are unemployed and receiving benefit or earning under £25,000 per annum
Who is it suitable for?
Learners that are over 50 years of age who aspire to learn new skills and get back into work.

Assessed through activities in class and continuous feedback given. Evidenced through completion of project workbook, written assignment and practical observation.
