About the course
This course includes 3 different qualifications tailored to address the unique needs and challenges faced by older individuals seeking employment opportunities. Each unit is designed to enhance skill sets, boost confidence, and facilitate a smooth transition back into the workforce.
Unit 1: Making Choices
In this unit, learners will explore strategies for making informed career choices, considering their interests, strengths, and aspirations. Activities will help to identify potential career paths aligned with their skills and preferences.
Unit 2: Living in the Community
This unit focuses on understanding the dynamics of living in a community and the importance of effective communication and collaboration. Learners will develop interpersonal skills necessary for building positive relationships both in the workplace and within the broader community.
Unit 3: Budgeting
Financial literacy is crucial for managing personal finances and making informed decisions. In this unit, learners will learn practical budgeting techniques.
Unit 4: Aspects of Citizenship
Being an active and engaged citizen involves understanding rights, responsibilities, and the broader societal context. This unit explores the principles of citizenship and how to contribute positively to the community
Unit 5: Developing Skills for Gaining Employment
This unit focuses on essential employability skills necessary for securing and maintaining employment. The unit includes CV writing, interview techniques, and effective communication strategies tailored to the needs of older workers re-entering the job market.
Unit 6: Career Planning
The final unit guides learners through the process of career planning, considering long-term goals, skill development opportunities, and avenues for career advancement and sustainable employment opportunities.
The Entry 3 Award in Preparation for Employment gives learners 2 additional units that supports learners to develop their digital and communication skills focusing on sending emails, finding routine information for work and solving problems. Learners will also have the opportunity to develop the Microsoft Office skills using Word and PowerPoint.
The Mental Health Awareness Qualification is designed to provide crucial and current information regarding the effects of mental health and how this can impact us in work. The content is aimed at encouraging important conversations around mental health and how to look after your own mental health in life and employment.
By the end of this course, learners will possess a comprehensive toolkit of essential employability skills, empowering them to confidently pursue and secure meaningful employment opportunities as older workers in today's competitive job market.
Entry requirements
Learners must be unemployed and in receipt of benefit or earning under £25,000 per annum
Must have a National Insurance number
Must have been a UK resident for the last 3 years or proof of right to education
How much does it cost?
Free if you are unemployed and receiving benefit or earning under £25,000 per annum
Who is it suitable for?
Learners that are over 50 years of age who aspire to learn new skills and get back into work.

How will I be assessed?
Assessed through activities in class and continuous feedback given. Evidenced through completion of project workbook, written assignment and practical observation.
