Harlow College finds gateway to £1500 award for the benefit of unemployed people across the East of England.
Celebrated Guardian columnist Polly Toynbee visited Harlow College on Wednesday 26 November for a politically charged discussion and provided some helpful tips to aspiring journalism students.
Accompanied by Harlow’s Labour candidate Suzy Stride, Mrs Toynbee hoped to inspire some of the students at the College during a “Pizza and Politics” event, the fifth one of its kind, where students were wholeheartedly encouraged to vote and take a more active role in politics.
Harlow College hosted a second visit from Ed Miliband on Wednesday 12 November. After being welcomed to the College by Principal Karen Spencer, trainee journalists from the College were given the chance to meet the leader of the Labour Party for an informal interview session. He faced some tough questions on topics that included tuition fees, unemployment amongst young people, engaging with voters and how he deals with the pressure of leadership.
Local student Sophie Stacey from Harlow College has won Media BTEC Student of the Year at the National BTEC Awards, held in London on 3rd July 2014. The ceremony was held in recognition of the nearly one million students around the country who are studying BTEC qualifications this year. Pearson, who own Edexcel, the awarding body for BTECs, received over 1000 nominations across the 20 award categories for this year’s Awards.
Holocaust Memorial Day this year marked the 70th anniversary of the liberation of Auschwitz-Birkenau. 2015 will also be the 20th anniversary of the Genocide in Srebrenica, Bosnia. The theme for this major anniversary year focused on memory.
The purpose of Holocaust Memorial Day is to commemorate the Holocaust, Nazi persecution and subsequent genocides – to remember. Those who have no direct experience to recall are asked, on HMD, to ‘remember’ those who were murdered and to honour the survivors.
Harlow College had the honour of hosting Radio 4’s Any Questions? on Friday 9th of January. Presenter Jonathan Dimbleby grilled five prospective parliamentary candidates in the College’s GlassBox Theatre in front of an invited local audience.
The panel consisted of Victoria Ayling (UKIP), Jillian Creasey (Green Party), Maajid Nawaz (Liberal Democrats), Sir Keir Starmer (Labour) and Tom Tugendhat (Conservative).
Harlow College is celebrating its latest set of impressive A Level results, with high achieving students securing a 100% pass rate for the third year in a row. Not only that but 58% of the passes were at grades A*-B and 83% were at grades A*-C.
On Wednesday 3rd of July students, staff, alumni and proud parents gathered in Harlow College's Glass Box Theatre to celebrate the achievements of our amazingly talented and successful students. It was a wonderful evening and an opportunity to showcase the positivity, enthusiasm, hard work and dedication of our young people. Students played key roles in all aspects of the event, including organisation, presentation, catering and technical support.
