WHAT'S IT ALL ABOUT?

This course is ideal if you are interested in working in the vehicle repair/maintenance industry. It is designed to maximise opportunities for progression onto an Apprenticeship programme where you can work towards becoming a fully qualified automotive specialist. You will learn the practical skills and knowledge required to work in the dynamic automotive industry. 

WHAT WILL I DO?

Students will carry out maintenance activities on vehicles, including electrical equipment; fuel, ignition, air and exhaust systems; air conditioning; chassis and transmission components. Our strong links with employers like Station Garage, Mr Unique and London Stansted Airport mean students will benefit from their vast experience.

WHAT CAN I DO NEXT?

You can either progress on to further or higher education or apply for industry Apprenticeships in the automotive sector. Career opportunities include motor technician/mechanic/MOT tester; service/parts adviser; bodywork specialist or even running your own garage business.

Electric/Hybrid Vehicle Awareness – Level 1 Award

This Level 1 Award is designed for people who may encounter electric/hybrid vehicles (all variations) and require safety awareness, it is particularly suitable for non-technical people working in the automotive industry such as managers, valeters, parts and sales staff but also for private electric/hybrid vehicle drivers who wish to understand more about their vehicle. 

Delivered as a one day session, you will learn about the different types of electric and hybrid vehicles, the dangers surrounding all variations of the vehicles and the precautions to avoid potential injury.

Electric/Hybrid Vehicle Routine Maintenance Level 2 Award

This course is designed to help you understand how to work safely when carrying out routine maintenance activities on Electric/Hybrid vehicles.

Ideal for those working in the automotive industry or anyone who may encounter electric/hybrid vehicles within a routine maintenance situation as well as the knowledge and skills required to work safely around a vehicle that may have had damage to its high energy/electrical system.

This Award sized qualification offers an introduction to this specialised industry sector to compliment your current industry qualifications and experience. If you are a member of the IMI, you can use this qualification to gain IMI TechSafe™ accreditation, and therefore the ability to easily demonstrate to colleagues, customers and professionals that you’re fully qualified to be working on EV vehicles and/or vehicles with ADAS technologies.

Heavy Vehicle Maintenance & Repair Apprenticeship

This Apprenticeship is ideal for those looking to become Motor Vehicle Service and Maintenance Technicians (Heavy Vehicle) capable of servicing and repairing heavy goods vehicles and vehicles with a gross weight of over 3500kg. It is suitable for those working in either a dealership for a manufacturer or for an independent garage that deals with many different makes of vehicles.

Level 3 & 4 Electric/Hybrid Vehicle System Repair and Replacement with Vehicles Diagnosis, Testing and Repair

The Level 3 course is designed to build upon your current knowledge of working with electric/hybrid vehicles including how to work safely when carrying out repair activities on electric/hybrid vehicle high voltage systems. 

The Level 4 Award in the Diagnosis, Testing and Repair of Electric/Hybrid Vehicles and Components is the first qualification of its kind to address working on live electric/hybrid high voltage vehicle systems and components. The qualification is essential to ensure the health and safety of individuals working on electric/hybrid vehicles. 

You will complete both levels over the course duration of 6 evenings. 

This combined course is designed specifically for technicians who are working on the maintenance and repair of electric/hybrid high voltage vehicle systems and components. Ideal for those working in the automotive industry or anyone who may encounter electric/hybrid vehicles within a routine maintenance situation.

Light Vehicle Maintenance & Repair Apprenticeship

The Motor Vehicle Maintenance and Repair Apprenticeship addresses a wide range of skills essential for working in the industry. General course core units (knowledge & skills and competence) include: health and safety in the motor industry, roles and responsibilities, workshop tools and equipment.
Technical units include: routine maintenance, engines, lubrication and cooling, fuel, ignition and air and exhaust, skills in engine units and components, electrical units, chassis systems, transmission system, inspecting using prescribed methods.

Light Vehicle Maintenance and Repair Principles Level 3 Diploma

This course is designed to engage and motivate students who are interested in learning about the maintenance of motor vehicles and the various roles that are available in the retail motor industry.

Motor Vehicle Level 1

This course is suitable for anyone interested in working in the vehicle repair/maintenance industry. It is designed to maximise opportunities for progression onto an apprenticeship programme where you can work towards becoming a fully qualified Motor Vehicle specialist.

Motor Vehicle Level 2

This qualification will give you a good foundation of knowledge on the motor vehicle and its sub-systems. The practical assignments will allow you to practise and experience the maintenance activities associated with the service of light vehicles.
