Media Studies AS/A Level

The OCR AS Level Media Studies course is a comprehensive and engaging exploration of the multifaceted world of media. Medicine – Access to Higher Education Diploma

Subject Descriptor CompliantAccess to Medicine is an intensive science‐based one year full time course tailored to the requirements of a medical degree, designed to provide an alternative route for non-traditional students into medical training.

It is a course for mature students who, having achieved in other areas, now wish to retrain as doctors. These include:

  • those with experience in other health-related professions
  • those whose initial career choice has proved unsatisfying and who wish to change their field of employment to the health care sector
  • those who have previously studied in higher education, but whose studies did not constitute a suitable preparation for medical training

What is an Access to Higher Education course? 

An Access to Higher Education course is a 1 year pre-university course that prepares adults for study at university. This course is ideal if you have been out of education for a while, planning a career change or upskill in your current job. A typical Access course is 2-3 days a week, 9.30am-3pm and are taken by students of all ages and backgrounds.

Mental Health Awareness Level 1 Award

In this course the learner will understand what is meant by the term 'mental health' and consider the definition and causes of mental health difficulties. Learners will also explore common perceptions of mental health difficulties and how stereotyping can affect people's perceptions. They will develop their knowledge of the rights of those who experience mental health difficulties and learn where appropriate support can be sought. Learners will also develop their awareness of cultural diversity within mental health issues.

Mental Health First Aid and Mental Health Advocacy in the Workplace

The Health and Safety Executive report that over 17.9 million working days were lost in 2020 due to work-related stress, depression and anxiety. It’s important that employers are transparent and open about mental health issues, and this qualification builds an understanding of mental health problems and the support available to colleagues. 

Money Management

With the rising cost of living and the resulting reduction of disposable income, it is becoming more and more important to understand basic budgeting skills. In these workshops you will develop and practice skills such as planning your money, income, taxation and benefits, expenditure and budgeting, debt and borrowing and savings and investments. These real-life maths sessions should help you to build confidence and skills that can be applied in everyday situations.

Motor Vehicle Level 1

This course is suitable for anyone interested in working in the vehicle repair/maintenance industry. It is designed to maximise opportunities for progression onto an apprenticeship programme where you can work towards becoming a fully qualified Motor Vehicle specialist.

Motor Vehicle Level 2

This qualification will give you a good foundation of knowledge on the motor vehicle and its sub-systems. The practical assignments will allow you to practise and experience the maintenance activities associated with the service of light vehicles.

Multi-Skilled in Food Preparation & Hospitality

This is a practical programme, which helps you to develop skills in cooking. These skills will allow you to prepare a wide range of dishes. The Certificate gives you an excellent grounding in the hospitality and catering industry.

Multi-trade – Carpentry and Brickwork Level 1

Multimedia Level 2

Music Performance & Production

If music is more than just a passion, it’s a profession, then this course is designed for you. Your music skills and knowledge will be enhanced. We aim to produce highly skilled, resilient, positive and versatile young performers and artists. Students work in collaboration with each other to meet the challenge of termly projects resulting in live concerts and music productions. You will explore music performance, composition, live sound and recording, whilst developing your study skills in research, analysis and critical evaluation. You shall also be given the opportunity to develop music theory and skills of your own choosing throughout the course.
