Hair and Beauty Level 1 Diploma

The Level 1 Diploma in Hair and Beauty is designed to build on your interest and passion for the hair and beauty industry, covering a wide range of skills from styling, plaiting and twisting to make-up or nail art.

This qualification is designed for those who wish to prepare for further learning or training in the hair and beauty sector. It will also enable you to perform your own basic services and to assist others in the salon.

Hairdressing – Level 2 Women’s Hairdressing (Full-time)

This course will give you the skills and knowledge you need to provide basic shampoo and condition, styling men's and women's hair, plaiting and twisting, the art of dressing hair and, salon reception duties. You will gain an insight into working in the sector and knowledge of the health, safety and hygiene requirements. It will support progression onto a Level 2 course.

Hairdressing – Level 2 Women’s Hairdressing (Part-time)

This Level 2 Hairdressing course is the perfect starting point for aspiring hairdressers. It will provide you with the essential skills and knowledge required for basic shampooing and conditioning, styling men's and women's hair, braiding and twisting and fulfilling salon reception duties. Throughout the course, you will also gain insight into the workings of the industry and develop a solid understanding of health, safety and hygiene requirements.

One unique advantage of this course is the opportunity to learn within Harlow College's two state-of-the-art hair and beauty salons. These salons are conveniently located on the Harlow College campus and in Harlow Town Centre, offering a real-world learning environment equipped with industry-standard equipment. This hands-on experience will not only enhance your practical skills but also expose you to the professional atmosphere of a salon, preparing you for a successful career in the hairdressing industry. 

Successful completion of this course will not only set a strong foundation for your hairdressing career but also prepare you for progression onto a Level 3 course, ensuring you are well-equipped to excel in the field.

Hairdressing – Level 3 Hair Services (Full-time)

Do you want to be a senior hair stylist, colourist or even run your own hair salon? If you are already working as a hairdresser and have a level 2 qualification, this course is the perfect next step. You can build on the skills you have already gained to become creative and highly skilled in a wide range of hairdressing services, including colour, bridal hair, creative hairdressing and the promotion and selling of products. When you complete this course you will have all the essential skills you need to gain employment or start your own business in the hairdressing industry!

Hairdressing – Level 3 Hair Services (Part-time)

Do you want to be a senior hair stylist, colourist or even run your own hair salon? If you are already working as a hairdresser and have a level 2 qualification, this course is the perfect next step. You can build on the skills you have already gained to become creative and highly skilled in a wide range of hairdressing services, including colour, bridal hair, creative hairdressing and the promotion and selling of products. When you complete this course you will have all the essential skills you need to gain employment or start your own business in the hairdressing industry!

Health & Science Level 1

This is a level 1 aimed to provide an introduction to Further Education and the courses on offer. It comprises of core units that will prepare students for a level 2 qualification, pastoral units that will give students essential skills for personal development, and subject units to give an example of future courses. Other pathways include Engineering, Sport and Business.

Health & Social Care Extended Diploma

This course provides thorough training for those wishing to work in care homes and in a social care settings (e.g. hospices, care homes for the elderly or for people with disabilities or mental illness). You will undertake part of your course in college and part in training placements in the community so that you gain experience of working in a variety of health and social care settings. This enables you to gain practical, hands on training.

Health & Social Care Level 2

This course is suitable for those who have no previous experience in health and social care but wish to pursue a career in this sector. The course is assignment based, with a minimum of 60 hours of work experience. Those who only need to do one GCSE resit will also do half a day a week volunteering, which will enhance their employability on completion of the programme.

Healthcare and Nursing Assistant Practice Higher National Certificate

The course covers a range of subjects including innovation and improvement, person-centred practice, care planning processes, supporting individuals through significant life events, supporting team and partnerships, psychophysiological disorders, and health psychology. Classes are taught though face-to-face lectures and one-to-one meetings. Students will engage in group work, research projects and flip-learning.

Healthcare Assistant Practitioner Higher National Diploma

The course covers a range of subjects including innovation and improvement, person-centred practice, care planning processes, supporting individuals through significant life events, supporting team and partnerships, psychophysiological disorders, and health psychology. Classes are taught though face-to-face lectures and one-to-one meetings. Students will engage in group work, research projects and flip-learning.

Heavy Vehicle Maintenance & Repair Apprenticeship

This Apprenticeship is ideal for those looking to become Motor Vehicle Service and Maintenance Technicians (Heavy Vehicle) capable of servicing and repairing heavy goods vehicles and vehicles with a gross weight of over 3500kg. It is suitable for those working in either a dealership for a manufacturer or for an independent garage that deals with many different makes of vehicles.

History AS/A Level

Henry Ford said that "History is more or less bunk". The aim of this History course is to develop your analytical skills through the interpretation and evaluation of evidence, so that you can judge for yourself. You will be challenged to make judgements on controversial issues and you'll gain an understanding of significant political, social, economic and religious events. History at Harlow College has been designed to offer a balanced and wide range of units from different time periods and countries that meet the interests of our learners.
