Games Design & Development Level 2

This is a full-time course over one year. A range of assessment methods including assignments, presentations to industry professionals, course work and live briefs.

These will aim to develop the skills, knowledge and understanding relevant to specific creative activities in games design and development topics and in the creation of your own professional portfolio.

The dedicated professional teaching team will offer training in a wide range of practical and theoretical areas to ensure you are well prepared for progression onto L3 or into industry. You will work in our dedicated Creative Industries Centre and have access to specialist equipment.

Games Design & Development Level 3

This is a full-time course over one year (Diploma) or two years (Extended Diploma). A range of assessment methods including assignments, presentations to industry professionals, coursework and live briefs. These will aim to develop the skills, knowledge and understanding relevant to specific creative activities in games art application and in the creation of your own professional portfolio. The dedicated professional lecturing team offer industry-standard training in a wide range of practical and theoretical areas to ensure you are well prepared for progression onto Level 3 or into industry. You will work in our dedicated Creative Industries Centre and have access to specialist equipment.

General Engineering Higher National Certificate

Subject to validation, this course may change to a Foundation Degree validated by ARU from 2024 with a direct top-up to a full degree available.

This course provides an extensive knowledge and skills in engineering with specialist units available in Advanced Manufacturing and Automated Systems. You will be studying in the new (£11m) state-of-the-art Harlow Advanced Manufacturing Centre (HAMEC) equipped with over £2m worth of industry standard machinery and equipment. There is a huge demand for qualified engineers locally, nationally and internationally. We work closely with industry to ensure our courses meet the requirements of employers.

Geography AS/A Level

This subject combines aspects of human and physical geography. Students will look at how landscapes are formed and shaped, and begin to understand the value and vulnerability of the resources the Earth provides. Alongside this students will learn about how and why patterns in human settlement and migration have changed over the years, alongside aspects of social change such as rebranding and development of areas and consumerism patterns.

Getting into Construction

This programme is designed to support individuals to gain qualifications required to secure employment in the construction industry. During this course you will complete the Entry Level 3 Extended Certificate in Employability Skills which offers transferrable employability skills needed for employment such as teamwork, communication and problem-solving. This qualification is designed to enable you to develop the skills required to work within the construction environment and is tailored to the requirements of the industry. The course covers units such as self-management skills, safe learning in the workplace, preparing for interview and searching for a job. You will work collaboratively to complete the following three projects as part of a team;  

  • From tender to toolbox – setting up business
  • The self-employed trade’s person
  • The build up to getting a job

During this course you will complete the Level 1 Award in Health & Safety in a Construction Environment and this will enable you to undertake the CITB Operatives Health, Safety and Environment examination, both are required before you can apply for a CSCS card. Your tutor will guide you through the theory elements of the construction environment to enable you to pass your CITB exam. 

On successful completion of the course Harlow College will fund one CITB test (any re-takes must be self-funded) and after successfully passing your CSCS test we will fund your CSCS Green Labourer card.

Gym Instructing Certificate – Full-time

This course is ideal for anyone interested in the health and fitness industry and who wish to develop their practical skills in gym-based exercise. It comprises both practical and theoretical elements and you will be given the opportunity to develop your fitness training skills in a gym environment. In addition to this you will be given the opportunity to gain valuable work experience through work placements related to your study programme.

Gym Instructing Certificate – Part-time

The qualification is based on the Chartered Institute for the Management of Sport and Physical Activity (CIMSPA) professional standards for instructing gym based exercise. Throughout this qualification, learners will develop their knowledge and understanding of relevant anatomy and physiology. They will also develop the knowledge, understanding and skills to prescreen clients and check their readiness to exercise, health and safety and induct individuals and small groups to gym equipment. They will also plan and instruct gym-based exercise programmes. In parallel, learners will develop their communication and customer service skills, their awareness of environmental sustainability and their commercial skills, all of which are valued highly by employers. Problem solving, team working skills and research skills will also be developed.
