    About the course

    The qualification will help you gain an understanding of the skills required within the electrotechnical sector. You will cover compulsory aspects such as:

    • Scientific Principles
    • Installation of wiring systems and enclosures
    • Electrical Installations Technology

    How much does it cost?

    Free to those aged 16-18

    There is a range of financial support that you may be entitled to, including: Learner Support funds, grants and bursaries and employer support.

    Textbooks, uniform, boots, toolkit, pens, stationery and folders approx. cost £150.

    Who is it suitable for?

    This qualification is for you if you are a 16-19 year old learner, who wishes to work as an electrician in the building services industry. It has been designed to deliver a high level of occupational skills and provide a platform from which to progress through further into an apprenticeship programme or into employment. This route at Level 2 is a step towards becoming a competent electrician.

    Synoptic assignment (practical) & Theory exam

    Where will this course take me?

    Level 3 Diploma or onto the Level 3 Apprenticeship route before seeking employment.

    Possible careers:

    • Electrical Supervisor

      Oversees teams of electricians on construction or maintenance projects, ensuring safety, quality, and timelines are met.

    • Electrical Design Engineer

      Uses CAD software to design electrical systems for buildings, machinery, or infrastructure. Often requires further study or experience in design.

    • Renewable Energy Technician

      Installs and maintains solar panels, wind turbines, and other green technologies. A fast-growing field with strong future demand.

    • Electrical Teacher or Assessor

      Teaches apprentices or assesses vocational qualifications. Ideal for experienced electricians who enjoy mentoring others.

    • Project Manager (Electrical)

      Manages electrical projects from planning to completion, including budgeting, scheduling, and team coordination. Often requires leadership and organisational skills.

    If you're aged 19 or over and you want to study an Access to Higher Education Diploma, or a Level 3 to 6 Vocational Qualification, you could be eligible for an Advanced Learner Loan.
