    About the course

    This course is designed to equip learners with the practical skills and technical knowledge required to begin a career in the construction and woodworking industries. The course covers essential areas such as health and safety, interpreting technical drawings, selecting and using hand and power tools, and producing a range of carpentry joints and structures to professional standards. Through a blend of classroom learning and hands-on workshop practice, learners will gain experience in tasks such as constructing frames, fitting doors, assembling structural components, and working with a variety of timbers and sheet materials. This qualification provides a strong foundation for progression into employment, apprenticeships, or further study in advanced carpentry and joinery.

    Entry requirements

    Successful Completion of Level 1 Diploma in Carpentry.

    How much does it cost?

    Free to 16-18 year olds. Reduced fees may be available for 19+ learners.

    Those looking to enter the construction industry or move on to an apprenticeship.

    Why study?

    Learners will develop hands-on experience in marking out, cutting, and assembling timber components, practicing a variety of traditional and modern joints, and constructing basic frameworks and structural assemblies. They will also learn to fit doors, install skirting boards, and work with sheet materials to create functional items.

    Each year we try to organise at least one site visit.

    Each year we try to arrange at least one masterclass from an influential person from the industry.

    How will I be assessed?

    Externally Set and Externally marked online theory assessments.

    Externally set internally marked practical assessments.

    Funding Your Course

    If you're aged 19 or over and you want to study an Access to Higher Education Diploma, or a Level 3 to 6 Vocational Qualification, you could be eligible for an Advanced Learner Loan.
