    This qualification is designed for anyone considering a career in the health or social care sector. The course includes a certificate in understanding working in the health and social care sector and additional learning about the social care sector and the main human body systems (anatomy and physiology). It is a good foundation year for progression to the level 3 course - T level health.

    How much does it cost?

    Courses are free to 16-18 year olds. Reduced fees may be available for 19+ learners.

    Textbook approximately £25. DBS fee approximately £45. Compulsory trips approximately £35. Non-compulsory trips approximately £100.

    Why study?

    This course aims to: 

    • Give learners the opportunity to investigate a work role in the health and social care sectors and provide the underpinning knowledge needed to work effectively.
    • Give learners the opportunity to learn about the main body systems of the human body.

    The objective of this course is to:  

    • develop the learners’ understanding of the health and social care sectors to support the progression onto further qualifications or roles in the workplace

    Where will this course take me?

    Further education: Learners can progress to T level health if achieve a merit and a grade 4 in english and maths. (subject to interview with course leader)

    Employment: You can use the skills, knowledge and experience you have gained to start working in the health and social care sector, such as care worker or health support worker.

    Core modules

    There are 6 units on the health sector which are assessed through a portfolio of evidence (coursework) 

    There are 2 exam units; human body systems and working in social care.

    3. Personal development in the health sector
    4. Health, Safety and Security in the health sector
    5. Understand Quality Standards in the health sector
    6. Equality and Diversity in the health sector

    Exam units

    1. Human Body 
    2. Working in Social Care

    Maths and English

    Learners will continue to work towards grade 4 in maths and english GCSE if they have not already achieved these.

    How will I be assessed?

    Learners must achieve and pass all units. All units are mandatory. There are 6 coursework and 2 exam units.
