Games Design

WHAT'S IT ALL ABOUT?

Our new programme in Games Design will provide you with an opportunity to begin your journey in the computer games industry. Using industry-standard software and hardware in our purpose-built working environment, you will gain the knowledge and skills required for employment in the sector.

The course is built on coding and core traditional art and design skills such as pre-production, idea creation through drawing development and research.This then directly informs the 2D/3D digital content creation of the computer gaming assets and environment from narrative creation, concept art, sound and video, 3D modelling and animation.

WHAT WILL I DO?

The course will cover the games industry, games design, games production, 3D animation, 3D modelling, games sound design, concept art/observational drawing and app development. You will work on a range of platforms such as iPads, Apple Mac computers and Alienware gaming PCs with a range of industry-standard design software packages including Unity game engine; Autodesk 3DSMax and Maya; and, the Adobe Creative Cloud Suite, as well as Apple’s Swift app development software and Swift Playgrounds app. Using these tools, the learner will develop skills in the visual language of computer games and interactivity as well as attain an all-round knowledge of producing computer games.

WHAT CAN I DO NEXT?

Successful completion of the Level 3 Games Design can lead to our HNC/D computer games design course and variety of degree pathway options such as games design, computer animation SFX, architectural/product pre-visualisation and is designed to provide an educational foundation for a range of careers in the games, multimedia, media or you can progress your career on level 4 Enterprise specialising in your own pathway within the Gaming Industry.

App Design Level 3

This is a full-time course over one year. A range of assessment methods including assignments, presentations to industry professionals, course work and live briefs. These will aim to develop the skills, knowledge and understanding relevant to specific creative activities in app design and in the creation of your own professional portfolio. The dedicated professional lecturing team offer industry will offer training in a wide range of practical and theoretical areas to ensure you are well prepared for progression into university, apprenticeships or into industry where there is a need for an app. You will work in our dedicated Creative Industries Centre and have access to specialist equipment.

Games Design Level 1

This is a full-time course over one year. A range of assessment methods including assignments, presentations to industry professionals, course work and live briefs.

These will aim to develop the skills, knowledge and understanding relevant to specific creative activities in games art application and in the creation of your own professional portfolio.

The dedicated professional lecturing team offer industry will offer training in a wide range of practical and theoretical areas to ensure you are well prepared for progression onto L2. You will work in our dedicated Creative Industries Centre and have access to specialist equipment.

Games Design Level 2

This is a full-time course over one year. A range of assessment methods including assignments, presentations to industry professionals, course work and live briefs.

These will aim to develop the skills, knowledge and understanding relevant to specific creative activities in games design topics and in the creation of your own professional portfolio.

The dedicated professional teaching team will offer training in a wide range of practical and theoretical areas to ensure you are well prepared for progression onto L3 or into industry. You will work in our dedicated Creative Industries Centre and have access to specialist equipment.

Games Design Level 3

This is a full-time course over one year (Diploma) or two years (Extended Diploma). A range of assessment methods including assignments, presentations to industry professionals, coursework and live briefs. These will aim to develop the skills, knowledge and understanding relevant to specific creative activities in games art application and in the creation of your own professional portfolio. The dedicated professional lecturing team offer industry-standard training in a wide range of practical and theoretical areas to ensure you are well prepared for progression onto Level 3 or into industry. You will work in our dedicated Creative Industries Centre and have access to specialist equipment.
